I appreciated your spinning in their graves comment.
My Mom and Dad both gave generously to the Church while they were alive and I gave significant gifts in their memory, every penny of which I wish I had back! I will never, ever, give money for a building or for a thing (chalices, kneeling rail cushions, etc.) again.
My Will does leave a substantial gift as a scholarship to TESM students (Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry), one of two Orthodox, conservative Seminaries. But I am beginning to rethink even that. Why give money to someone studying to be a Priest, when the Churches are continuing to be abandoned in favor of meeting in school gymnasiums and Elk Lodges, to get away from ECUSA.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
There haven't been too many times over the past 20 years that I was glad that my mom had passed away. 9/11 and things like this make me glad she wasn't alive to see it. She loved the Episcopal church. Rarely missed a Sunday.
Sigh.
What ever happened to "Go, and sin no more"??
They can become gentlemens clubs, like the church I was baptised in has become!!
It has been chaged to: "Go, and be a good whore."
As a general rule, never give money to any sort of permenant endowment. There is no control over how it is spend. I suppose ultimately you can't get around having to fund a new church building or something like that, but give to charities that use the money in their annual spending needs.
Endowments basically insulate people/organizations from the consequences of their actions, and result it the money being used either not the way it was originally intended and/or in some totally useless and unproductive way.
Ain't that the truth!!
Big sigh!
Nov. 8th is a wonderful day for a Birthday ~ it's mine too. Here's to us both!
