Ladies and gentlement, boys and girls, today marks the opening of the Anglo-Catholic Ruminations "Freaky Frontal Contest." Inspired by the Nasty Chasuble Contest of the "Fireside Chat with the Rector," of blessed memory, and because it won't require a lot of thought on my part :) I have begun this fun contest.
Here is how it will work:
Readers should submit original images, or ones from the web, of ugly, tasteless, cheap and/or felt altar frontals to the blog email: anglocatholicruminations@gmail.com, which is also linked in my Blogger profile.
I will post the submissions as they come in and as I have time.
Any person may submit as many entries as they wish (within reason!).
In about two weeks, or when the entries stop coming in (I will warn of the close date ahead of time) I will post the winning freaky frontal.
*** Now I need your help: I can't decide what to give the winner of the contest. Suggestions warmly welcome as always. I would prefer something free. ***
POSSIBLE FUTURE CONTESTS MAY INCLUDE:
* Awful Altars
* Sickening Stoles
* Idiotic Albs
* Terrible Tabernacles
* Sorry Statues
* Bad Banners
* Chintzy Chalices
* Hideous Hymns
TOPICS: Mainline Protestant

Nah, our chasubles are pretty mainstream, now during ordinary time, they're just green.

I remember that! (I saved the pics to my hard drive -- too priceless to lose. If you like seeing car wrecks . . . )
Here's a fairly horrid one . . .

Looks like a children's altar in a sunday school class.
Nice for the kids - they like colourful things.
A bit overdone for adulst, I think.

It's for the Children's Service.
The Children's Corner, like Mothers' Union banners (indeed, felt banners of ANY type) should be outlawed . . . why teach the kids bad taste?

Too bad the nasty chasuble is green; otherwise, the bunnies at the bottom would go well with the ghastly frontal.
Reminds me of the church which had an otherwise lovely "Easter garden" complete with empty tomb replication that was utterly spoiled by a taxidermied gray rabbit poised near the tomb. The cleric in charge would tell the kiddies that he thought the rabbit was the first to discover the empty tomb.

Hey, wait justa minute!
There's some green on the frontal . . . the grass in the foreground. In fact, it's almost the same shade.
Close enough, anyhow.
Love the bunny! Sounds like that old joke about the priest quizzing the kiddies about Easter . . . drawing out each response . . . the punch line is "and if he sees his shadow, we have six more weeks of winter."
. . . glances over shoulder looking for gathering clouds and rumbling thunder . . .

Uh...
When you said "Freaky Frontal Contest", I didn't automatically assume you meant altars!

. . . and watch out if you Google "frontal". You better add "altar" or you'll get an unpleasant surprise . . .

I found this:

A slide show of The Clown Eucharist.
It's the most awful thing I've ever seen. The fact that these people weren't struck down by a bolt of lightning proves that our God is a Lord of mercy and grace.

This thread reminds me of the Easter service I saw at my BIL & SIL's very large Evangelical church in Little Rock.
They had someone dressed as an "Easter Kangaroo".
Up front, hopping around.
During the main service.
After the bells & whistles fake crucifixion that kicked things off, the Kangaroo was the center of the service. Scary, very scary.
