Reality Check [ECUSA]
Midwest Conservative Journal ^ | 6/11/2005 | Christopher Johnson

Posted on 06/11/2005 4:29:51 PM PDT by sionnsar

For the benefit of any orthodox Christians remaining in ECUSA who think that the Current Unpleasantness can somehow be resolved, Mike Hopkins would like to relieve you of your hallucinations:

For years I, among many others, have been accused of being among those who have an agenda of the acceptance of the legitimacy of homosexuality. Guilty as charged. I am absolutely guilty of promoting the acceptance of the Christian lifestyle lived among all people, including homosexual ones. I have the agenda of the church approving and blessing same-sex love and commitment. I have the agenda of the Church proclaiming that sexual orientation is not a bar to Holy Spirit inspired ministry.

“Do you have the agenda of overturning centuries of Christian teaching about homosexuality, what the Bible says about homosexuals?” Pat Buchanan once asked me incredulously in a TV interview. I said something wonderfully nuanced. I should have simply said, “Absolutely.” The Bible and the Church have both been wrong. The Holy Spirit is teaching this to us. Jesus said she would do things like this and we shouldn’t be surprised when she does.

Attention Anglican conservatives: will you make the break now?

The Holy Spirit is a "she"?! Just when I thought I'd heard everything. The Anglicans need to take a cue from Catholics, the Vatican will either force heretics like this into "silence" or excommunicate them.

. . . the Vatican will either force heretics like this into "silence" or excommunicate them . . .

I disagree. Nobody is forced into silence.

They just can't speak publicly in support of these views and continue to call themselves Catholic. Their choice.

I'll add, as an aside, if these folks really just wanted to express their views, they would just join the Unitarians or the Metropolitan Community Church. That is not their aim.

They wish to utterly tear down and destroy those churches that disagree with their way of thinking, if the leadership will not adopt their views. In my opinion, because they are trying to silence the still small voice in their hearts that continually whispers, "What you are doing is wrong."

They really think if they can just change the church of their parents, that the voice will stop. It won't.

Run. All Christians need to run from this cult as quickly as possible.

Mike says : Church, it is time for us to move on. If we cannot live with being outraged by one another, than Church, it is time to move on.

I have to agree with him. He needs to move on. To a "church" which holds nothing sacred. Adios Mike. Don't let the door hit you yadda-yadda...

Absolutely. The Bible and the Church have both been wrong.

Dumb question, I'm not Anglican:

Why isn't this Rev. disciplined for this public remark? He is obviously acknowledging in public that his beliefs disagree with the Bible and Church both.

Isn't an Epsc. pastor bound to continue the teachings of his Church?

Is it that no authority exists, no authority is exercised or that authority agrees with him?

Not a dumb question at all. The problem is that the seats of authority are occupied by heretics. Discipline is being exercised pretty much only against the orthodox in the Episcopal church. (Do a search on keyword "ct6" and you'll see an example.)

This is why the Episcopal church of the United States is about (my prediction) to be let go from the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Yes, I have renounced ECUSA and do so publically again here.

But I'm afraid that this means that the critics of Cranmer and Elizabeth were right after all, and I don't know what to do next.

ECUSA is only a small part of the Anglican church worldwide. Are you condemning all of that? Does one heretic disprove a church?

I condemn nothing. But what has happened as the tide of modernity, homosexualism, and feminism has swept over all of the daughters of Reform, and at the same time, is considerably more, and more important, than "one heretic".

Since that is your assessment, then it would seem your choice is between Rome and Constantinople. Check out Pontifications' archives for material for both directions.
