The American Dollar Bill

I'm sure that many of you have now read "Angels & Demons". It answered for me (a Canadian) a question I'd always had about the American dollar bill ... "what in hell is that pyramid with the big eyeball on it on the back of the bill ???"

It's a Masonic symbol.

But the questions STILL remain:

1/Why do Americans have a Masonic symbol on their currency? Do most Americans even have a clue what the Masons stand for?

2/ How do Americans reconcile themselves with the two contradictory messages on the back of the bill: Novus Ordo Seclorum (New Secular Order) and In God We Trust?

Anyone with answers out there?

"A new order of society" and "In God we trust" are not necessarily contradictory. This comes from the "city on a hill" philosophy that drove many of our earliest settlers. In another words, they came here to build a new civilization that would be a shining example of truth to the rest of the world. They attempted to create a society that did not have a hierarchical church (such as England or Rome) but did have people with a direct faith in the Lord. In another words, instead of the people trusting in a state church which in turn trusts in God, the people would trust directly in God. They also attempted to creat a society that was not aristocratic like Europe. Such a society would have been unheard of and therefore consitute a new social order.

I assume you don't have financial interest in that. To help you stir this pot: one has one-half or one side of the combatants in the American Civil War and the European theater in World War II.

Gee, so you're saying that all those Founding Fathers who were Freemasons were godless atheists? And I thought this country was supposedly founded as a Christian nation.

I always figured...DEN was a monument to Hillary Clinton.

I didn't say that the founding fathers were all "godless athiests". I said that masons were sworn enemies of the Church who put certain ideals before God Himself.

And I thought this country was supposedly founded as a Christian nation.

That's what you thought... supposedly. The "creator" is ambiguously mentioned exactly once in the Declaration of Independance and not at all in our constitution.

They thought it better to leave Him out after winning the war, which is why today He's being snuffed out of American life at every opportunity. If we were founded as a "Christian" nation as some believe, the Father, Son and Holy spirit would have been mentioned at least once in our founding documents. They're not.

Even regarding the Declaration they got the "life" part right, but show me how God teaches us that we are somehow entitled to "liberty" or the "pursuit of happiness". From a Christian perspective, it's theologically unsound. All this pursuing of personalized idiosyncratic "happiness" and abuse of free will is exactly what's causing our devolution.

Freedom is in truth. Happiness comes from loving, serving and knowing God.

Isn't it amazing how somebody reads a book and becomes an instant expert, while the rest of us are in the dark and in need of their enlightenment.

I guess it's good we have "Angels and Demons" to tell us what's what.

I wish I could dig it back out of the trash can I threw it in.

"USA was founded as a Christian nation" is at least partly propaganda as AAA points out there is no Christian reference in our founding documents. Propaganda to pacify some Christians from thinking too much about the reality of the documents and the legal system that evolves from them.

Further, the idea that the government gets its power from the governed is another example where the documents clash with Christian theology which states that authority to govern comes from God....ergo, His laws must be obeyed and can not be contravened even if 51%-100% of the people or Supreme Court justices were to agree otherwise say for example on abortion or homo unions.

The culture could be accurately described as Christian perhaps years ago but we are definitely not a Christian nation now. The seeds for rampant secularism ultimately lie in the founders documents.

Hardly. Neither the Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence even mention Our Lord Jesus Christ, let alone acknowledge His Divine Kingship.

Grammar quibble - founders' documents.

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness

Opinion - as soon as someone gets rid of that pesky 'endowed by their Creator' phrase, I think the USA will be on the road to becoming a fond memory.

This guy says not a Christian nation but a nation founded by Christians:

So tell me Argus...have you actually read the book?

Or any other book for that matter?

I'm not saying I'm an expert in anything...I was just truly surprised when I read the book...I was under the assumption that the Masons was just a good ole' boys club with funny handshakes that the likes of Archie Bunker would belong to for the camraderie.

That so many members of the Masons hhave risen to positions of prominence makes me want to look at this organization more closely.

But you just stay blissful.
