The archbishop told Il Giornale: "The book is everywhere. There is a very real risk that many people who read it will believe that the fables it contains are true." Am I the only one who sees the GLARING IRONY in this statement?

The Roman Catholic Church in Italy has spoken out against what it says are "shameful and unfounded lies" in the best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Archbishop of Genoa, broke the church's official silence on the controversial book It's interesting that the Church would speak out about a 'novel', a work of fiction. Or is it?

Cyrano you read it- your comments? From what you read me of the sequel the writing itself was pretty lame.

The more attention the Church pays to this work of FICTION, the more mental midgets will believe "there must be something to it."

Another conspiracy theory....
Here's a rule on life. If more than three people know a secret then its no longer a secret. Hence there is almost nothing to the idea of any of these conspiracies.

I read it and didn't care for it. Thank goodness I didn't actually BUY it, but borrowed it from a friend.

Why make such a fuss over something that is not true? Lots of stuff has been printed over the years that isn't true.

"It astonishes and worries me that so many people believe these lies." Those that believe these lies are just adding to the heap that they already believe. NO big deal. It's a drop in the bucket.

"It astonishes and worries me that so many people believe these lies."
It doesn't astonish me. Most people believe all sorts of lies. People have been believing lies since Eve.
I hope the Catholic church is coming out in force to refute these lies (not just lament their existence) at a congregational level. IMO, the real danger is not so much the God-haters and tinfoil hatters, but rather, the "Cultural Christians" in the pews, in whom it will plant a seed of deceit.
Matt 24:10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold..."

It isn't just the Roman Catholics speaking out about it. There have been more books refuting the Da Vanci Code than anything else.
As the article said, there are a lot of people who read the book and think it is the real deal.

Maybe we should have an inquisition regarding those who believe in the "facts" presented in a fictional novel!!
Them catholics are real good at inquisitions!
