I use the Saint Andrew's missal, but I just came across a new Roman Catholic Daily missal being published... it apparently has quite a lot to boast of.... I can't click on the ad, though, so does anyone know where I can find out more about it?? And who's the publisher? This is where I saw it: http://www.salpan.org/Index2.htm ... Thanks very much!
Allow me to call in the Crusaders.

If not, Welcome!
Hi!
The missal you speak of is the one by Angelus Press, yes, as Grey Ghost mentioned...it is a spectacular missal, one that I was fortunate enough to take part in the work to publish it...
I highly recommend it. I used to use the Father Lasance missal, and I must admit that even the Father Lasance doesn't hold a candle to the Roman Catholic Daily Missal.
Thanks very much! I checked out the link and it seems pretty good, but since you have one of the missals yourself... would you mind saying exactly what it is you like about it... is it an improvement from the St. Andrew's Daily Missal?? Or the same? Is it all that the site says it is?
I was looking into the 1962 missal being printed by Baronius press, but a friend of mine who has seen one says it contains the luminous mysteries, so I was hesitating to buy it.
Does it have anything like that? I really would like a more comprehensive missal, viz., more prayers, but also the Latin/ English... and one that isn't a reprint because the pages aren't as easy to read.
Thanks again.
What do you know of the Baronius missal, as you say you took part in the publishing of the one for Angelus Press? Is there a big difference?
Sit down and make yourselves at home, it's nice to have you. Eat or drink whatever you like out of the fridge and invite your friends.
God bless.
Actually, I have seen the Baronius missal. Asthetically speaking, it's bigger, (e.g. it doesn't carry easily) and the corners are square. The binding seems loose (*though it could have just been that one copy that was that way, I'd concede to that)...but on to the nitty-gritty:
Their advertisement on their website reads "Roman Catholic Daily Missal" but it is not; it is actually The Roman Missal. They also seem to claim "The only complete Roman Missal according to the typical edition of 1962 approved by the Church!" which - I really am not sure what that means - is actually not quite true, as they do host the Luminous Mysteries.
When you ask "Is there a big difference?" In quantity, no; in quality, yes. Both in content and layout: Baronius missal almost felt "cheap" / and flipping through its pages that thought struck home more than once...and it's more expensive than the Roman Catholic Daily Missal published by the Angelus Press!
I hope that helps!
1. I like how the English translation is on the right page only - it allows for bigger print because you don't have the English and the Latin on the same page.
2. I think the instructions (which are in the right margin) are more comprehensive.
3. It's thinner. The St. Andrew is so thick it sometime hard to work with.
The only negative of this missal is that the pages are so thin, you have to be more careful than usual when turning them.
The "Roman Catholic Daily Missal" is $15 more expensive than the St. Andrew's, which I already own. What would you say to persuade me to buy the new missal as well?
Would it be a good present for a pre-teen new to Tradition, who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation?
This new missal is completely retypeset. The layout is quite clear, more clear than the St. Andrew's, which I used at one time as well. It has more prayers, is easier to follow, and is more user friendly - all the way down to the fact that the cover is flexible and sturdy, and the binding extremely elastic yet strong.
The ordinary of the mass has little "reminders" so to speak, on the outter gutter of each page, which really lift one's mind to God: explaining in brief the true, beautiful symbolism of the Holy Mass.
It also hosts all the rites for all the Sacraments, a myriad of litanies, blessings, etc. - even the Gregorian notation for the Kyriale! I really can't imagine using any other missal now..."$15 more" pales in comparison to what you actually get in return for purchasing this one of a kind work of art.
I hope that helps....
Wow! Yes, what a great idea.
My confirmation day was actually the day I received my first full-fledged missal ("way back" in third grade!)
It would be a real tool most necessary & eternally (!really!) useful as he embarks on the battlefield as a soldier for Christ!
But did you notice, the pages are extremely strong? At mass this morning I was in awe, I was half as trepidous as when I first commenced using it - and it bore the brunt of use amazingly well!
The paper actually came from France, made by a company that used to make the cigarette paper for fine rolling in the 1940s...rather fascinating, that.
The St. Andrew Daily Missal has a very helpful explanation before each new liturgical season, going into detail about that specific season.
Does the Roman Catholic Daily missal have this as well?
Does containing the Luminous Mysteries really make a difference as to authenticity or faithfulness? I can't believe that would be a negative consideration.
Before the luminous mysteries were promulgated I used to play a little game when saying the Rosary, looking fo the most profound yet meaningful in terms of the life of Jesus through the eyes of Mary, wih the stipulation that it tie in with the existing mysteries. It was basically just a longing to meditate on more subjects.
So the idea that 5 more mysteries on our Lords life is a bad thing, and in fact would invalidate a missal, rather than being an extra should you want to avail of it, boggles the mind. I would even say it is over the edge in disobedience and a desire to seperate from the Church over any imagined slight. It's like refusing to eat a piece of cake because there is a cherry on top.
Yes, very much so, because of the instruction it provides. It's a great tool to learn the Mass.
I have been very careful with it so far, so I didn't really notice how strong the pages are. The true test will be when my kids get a hold of it!
