Where is THE Passion?

Posted on 04/29/2004 8:00:59 PM PDT by NOBODY_HERE

Who's going to try to take God away next?

The Government has already taken prayer out of our schools; Mr. McDermott and friends are trying to take God out of our Pledge of Allegiance and now... our own religious organization can't afford to even educate our children.

I am writing from a small town in Pennsylvania. Currently we are in a fight to save our Catholic School from being closed. We have frantically tried to find assistance in every direction, unfortunately, we can't even get straight answers from our own diocese.

Does anyone else see a problem with a world where a movie (for entertainment purposes) can earn $317 million in one week...but a school, based on the same teachings (for educational purposes) can't earn enough money to keep the doors open?

One of the problems is that the majority of the people going to the movie were not Catholic.

Our priest did a hand count of the people who saw the movie at mass a few weeks ago and probably 20-25% raised their hands

A few evenings later, one of the MDs in our parish gave an overview of the wounds that killed our Lord and about 25 people showed out of about 900 people showed.

We have 4 openings on our Catholic grammer school board and it looks as if there are no takers.

I am affraid that people are Catholic in name only and any effort to support the Church and its work falls on deaf ears. On the other side, we had a fund raiser with all sorts of goodies to be won or bought for low prices. You could not get a parking spot in the area.

Here in my part of MI, we can't get a Catholic school spot. The biggest church in the area is great at blackmailing people to try to get an upper hand. I worked their nursery for mass and found out about what they were doing. I love volunteering but do not like to be forced to do so. Also strapped for cash, tuition was high and then the amount we would have to give (no matter whether the car broke down or not) would not be workable. Along with that, there was no sibling guarantee.

I chose to homeschool. We learn from the Baltimore Catechism.

Right now, we can't even get our Catholic neighbors to acknowledge us...some of our own parishioners are getting scared off and our priest and Bishop have out and out LIED to our parishioners and schools parents at least 3 different times over the past 6 months.

It breaks my heart, but I can easily see why people are turning away from the church.

Our school is very, very reasonable. We are the only school in the area that does not have a manditory contribution to the weekly mass, but that's because we are already servicing 7 different schools districts and 2 states. 8 families are currently crossing state lines just to get to a Catholic school. We are already covering about a 40-45 miles radius. The 3 schools they have suggested that our children go to, are all within a 3 mile radius of each other, but will result in over hours of busing for our children on a daily basis...that's after their parents drive them to the parish...and that's only being promised for 1 year.
