Cardinal McCarrick has been rather mealy-mouthed on this issue. I hope that at least in private, he has some tough words to say to Catholic dissenter Kerry.

Nah, he'll slap Kerry on the back and tell him how proud he is that he is running for President.

I'd rather hear that he "slapped" his flip-flops together--with Kerry's head in between them.

The cardinal said he would "feel" uncomfortable with denying Kerry communion. This cardinal is supposed to be one of the orthodox ones?

Well I can not wait to see what photo-op and political milage that Kerry will use out of the meeting.

Hopefully the Cardinal will lay it on the line with Kerry. If he does not, then he is worthless in his appointment for the USCCB for reviewing a policy on how to deal with Catholic politicians that ignore the Church.

McCarick is a weasel! He was a weasel when he was the Archbishop of Newark and he's a weasel now that he's the Archbishop of Washington.

He's really a wolf in sheep's clothes, because him and his entourage claim that he's Conservative and Orthodox on all issues, but in reality he's not.

I must go by impressions. He seems weak and unforthright. I have heard Bob Dornan call him the "Cockroach," and while they may be cruel, yet it does seem to describe him.

a rich catholic parishioner had a dog he was very fond of.
the animal became ill,and after exstensive tests the dog was diagnosed terminal.
the man made a appointment to see his bishop.
upon arrival with the dog,he asked the bishop too heal the pet.
the bishop replied that he had no animal healing skills
the man, said what if i contribute $10,000 to the church.
the bishop,replied that's different.
i didn't know the dog was catholic.
LOL

Looks like the fix is in...McCarrick will probably come forth assured of Kerry's good will and character, affirming that Ketchup boy is just a little misunderstood by right wing fanatical Catholics...

I am sure you are right. But then again we cannot really know what is in the heart of someone like John Kerry, now can we?

On the one hand, you have the meeting in Rome and a private meeting between the archbishop and Kerry. This should be a "last chance" meeting. On the other hand, I agree with you.

I pray that we're wrong.

I note that the USCC commission which will recommend how to deal with the Kerry-type problems will issue its report

AFTER NOVEMBER'S ELECTION.

From the picture with the original article, McCarrick looks to be well along in years -- shouldn't he be reconsidering some things while he still has the chance?

No, we do not know his culpability with any certainty...However, we can and must make rational judgements regarding his words and actions and from this, we can determine that he has, at least objectively, rejected the Catholic faith and any moral principles dealing with the sanctity of human life.

He and others have put themsleves in grave spiritual danger, objectively speaking. They are in need of much prayer.

The Archbishop is expected to question Kerry about his support for abortion rights and stem cell research, which contradict church teachings.

McCarrick is the head of a bishops' task force that's studying how to handle politicians who defy church doctrine. Some bishops have suggested denying communion to them, but McCarrick has said he'd feel "uncomfortable" doing that.

Kerry has said that millions of Catholics share his views and he believes the church should not govern his public stances.

How presumptuous!
