"Wasn't Jesus that gentleman who claimed to be God's son, could walk on water, heal the sick and turn water into wine?"

You answered your own question. According to written testiment in all Christian Bible to include the Mormon's, he could walk on water, heal the sick, and turn water into wine. Mr. Smith was imprisoned for cheating people out of money claiming to be able to see treasure under the ground through rocks, from which a mob of those he cheated pulled him out and shot him to death. Jesus taught Christians to love they neighbor. The Book of Mormon tells of two tribes in the beginning in South America, both white until God made one black because they were bad and needed to be identified. This is the reason they did not allow a black into the church for a century. Even now, only the "best" mormons are allowed in certain churches other mormons, off the street, may enter. Segregated religion in the 20th century based upon how many generations of Mormons preceeded you or the color of your skin? This is a Christian religion? There's a lot more, so I don't have to dislike them for what they are, just for what they do.

I'm not mormon, my mid-twenties son is. I have read the Book of Mormon because he asked me to. I've read of more truth in the Penthouse forum. My shakey ground is a 3.0. They rest on a fault line.

I wasn't objecting to those points, of which I agree. What I was pointing out was the implication that you shouldn't trust someone because they made remarkable claims and were attacked by a mob.

My sister married into the Mormon religion and raised four very nice children. We generally agreed not to force our religions on each other and to accentuate what we have in common and not where we disagree. It helps that she's a Limbaugh-listening conservative who is usually on our side politically (as most Mormons are).

I'm not offended when they pray for me and wouldn't be mad if they offered my name in some post-mortem baptism. God knows who I am and what I believe in (for better or worse) and am confident that the worst thing I'll get from Him is exactly what I deserve. My sins and failings are my own and nobody else needs to account for them but myself.

You didn't read very carefully. The change in skin color that was a curse on a group of people in the Book of Mormon was a reference to the Indians, not negroes.
