Mike Walker on the Al Rantel Show: "If We're Wrong, Rush Could Own Us"
790am KABC Radio
Posted on 10/09/2003 8:14:20 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl
Mike Walker of the National Enquirer has been on the Al Rantel show for the past two hours discussing the story which his paper broke about Rush Limbaugh's dependence on prescription drugs, obtained illegally through his housekeeper. As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business. The National Enquirer did all kinds of checking before going with this story. He said they only paid for the story from the housekeeper after she had already gone to the police with her story and evidence.
But the most upsetting thing Mike Walker and Al discussed is the possibility that oxicontin (?) causes deafness and that Rush may have caused his own deafness by taking up to 30 or so pills a day. That is a horrible thought.
My wish is that Rush gets on the radio, comes clean about his addiction, and gets the help he needs. The longer he waits to do this, the worse it will be for him, in all sorts of ways. The police are apparently more interested in busting dealers than users in this sort of situation, but the housekeeper and her husband received immunity with their statements to the police. The claim is that Rush also was receiving UPS deliveries of pills from another source. Whatever the case, he should come clean.

As for his silence so far, this may extend to more than just a housekeeper. They may have some other people they want to nab. Plus, Rush may be letting some people dig holes for themselves before he says anything official.

"I only want to know whether he will be charged with a crime...personally, I'm tired of people "sharing" their personal demons with me, the public etc.
Someone tell them to go see a Priest if they need a confessional.
"
Exactly.
I believe Rush will come through this unscathed (if it is true he was on drugs).
This is another failed attempt by the Clintons and their pimps to bring down a conservative. They fear Rush more than they do the devil.
The Clintons failed in California, they will fail with Bush and the Wilson flap, and they will fail to bring down Rush. Period.

I noticed the newswire story about oxyC causing deafness came out the day (or a couple days) before the Rush thing broke.
pretty weird.

Isn't 30 oxycontin pills MORE than enough to kill a grown man? - It CERTAINLY would make him incapable of doing his radio show at a MINIMUM. That was one of the issues Walker answered. He said medical experts said it is possible for a man to take that much because if taken in a gradual build up, your body will be able to tolerate more and hence, the need for higher doses in order to feel an effect.

"What he does off the air is not my business" That is the way I feel about it, but doesn't Rush endorse the drug war propaganda?

I posted this before but someone disagreed.
I asked my Doctor on Monday about this. His practice is the treatment of chronic pain so he and his staff are very up on all of the latest research.
When the deafness link was first published a year or so ago, I asked him about it. He said that there wasn't any link at all between the hydro or Oxycodone and deafness. He thought there was a link with Acetaminophen, though.
Since someone disputed this, I asked again last Monday. She said, this time, a different Doctor, that again, no link between the narcotic and deafness. Aspirin is linked to tinnitus, or ringing in the ears. Acetaminophen isn't linked to hearing loss but it does cause liver toxicity.
I don't know if this is the final word, I'll probably dig up the old article for my next appointment just to make sure she knows exactly what study I'm talking about.
Rush said his hearing loss was the result of an auto-immune reaction and unless someone proves otherwise, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I know why Rush was fatigued today. He not only has to do research for his three hour show every day, but deliver a good show with facts and panache. I assume he's also conferring almost hourly with his lawyers and investigators helping him in this case.
I'd be fatigued, too.
Heck, I get exhausted just thinking about the hell he's going through right now.

Did anyone hear him today? I heard that he didn't sound too good.
I heard the start of the show and he said he was tired.
Gee, if he has been ingesting that much stuff (very doubtful) imagine how much better he will be on air if he gets himself straightened out.
I don't think Rush Limbaugh is going anywhere. But what if he did? He's pulled in 100+ million in the last 36 months. So, if he is "toast" he's "buttered toast". With diamonds.
I've listened to Rush Limbaugh on and off and other than when his hearing was going he's never sounded high.
No matter what, I wish him well.

Excellent thread of 'brain dead' assumptions that is yet to be anything - charged or proven. What the heck is wrong with y'all?!?

Well, Rush talked about it during my lunch drive today. He made it sound like a semi-series situation whereupon he gave his advice.

My wish is that you wouldn't be so gullible. LOL!! I can't believe I'm reading this stuff on FR. I haven't followed this Rush/drug scandal since I first heard about it because it was so incredulous--Rush buying enough pills to keep a small country high for days on end; a housekeeper that meets him in out in the open in a Denny's parking lot rather than just leave the stuff in a hidey-hole at his house, and on and on. I don't listen to Rush that often and don't worship him like some people do, but come on--this story stinks to high heaven. At least wait for both sides of the story before you start sending Rush brochures for the Betty Ford Clinic.

If the story was completely false, he could have easily said soDidja ever hear the saying "give em enough rope and . . ."? No? I wouldn't want to try and defend the NatEnq when this turns out to be B.S.
Way too many posts are saying in essence "Come clean, Rush. We will support you." I'm saying flatly "I support you Rush". Until these accusations are proven (which aint gonna happen) Rush should continue playing out the rope.

He is probably fatigued from the stress he is under. That would wear out anybody.
To: Cinnamon Girl
I along with others I talk to recieve 10 to 20 emails a day for prescription pain killer drugs online. I guess they have online doctors who write your prescriptions.
I simply do not understand how this scam could be legal. I did the FBI online tip bit, they asked for examples which I provided, so will wait and see.
If the drugs are really this easy to obtain, why would Rush need the problems of dealing first hand with low lifes upclose and personal?

I think Elvis should own them first for their reporting that he was recently seen with JKF.
Everyone knows Elvis is a Nixon fan!
