Mike Walker on the Al Rantel Show: "If We're Wrong, Rush Could Own Us"
790am KABC Radio

Posted on 10/09/2003 8:14:20 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

Mike Walker of the National Enquirer has been on the Al Rantel show for the past two hours discussing the story which his paper broke about Rush Limbaugh's dependence on prescription drugs, obtained illegally through his housekeeper. As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business. The National Enquirer did all kinds of checking before going with this story. He said they only paid for the story from the housekeeper after she had already gone to the police with her story and evidence.

But the most upsetting thing Mike Walker and Al discussed is the possibility that oxicontin (?) causes deafness and that Rush may have caused his own deafness by taking up to 30 or so pills a day. That is a horrible thought.

My wish is that Rush gets on the radio, comes clean about his addiction, and gets the help he needs. The longer he waits to do this, the worse it will be for him, in all sorts of ways. The police are apparently more interested in busting dealers than users in this sort of situation, but the housekeeper and her husband received immunity with their statements to the police. The claim is that Rush also was receiving UPS deliveries of pills from another source. Whatever the case, he should come clean.

He sounded like he normally sounds when he has a lot of intelligent callers, and a lot to talk about in three hours. He was excited to the point where he missed some conversation from overtalk with the callers. He was pumped,he disagreed with george will, and showed great insight, and intelligence disecting the op-ed piece with the callers. He stammered a bit,but he was on his game. It seemed to me that he sounded like he is over the hump of bad publicity of late.

Yes of course. The timing is quite coincidental.

If you really believe that, I have SUCH a deal for you.

Cash only.

Small bills, please.

I'm curious about that too. Well whatever the case I'm unwilling to pass judgement until all the sides of the story has come out.

Oh, I'd guess that about 60-80% of the celeb scandal articles in the Enquirer are basically true, with about 60-80% of the information in each basically true article being correct.

They're more reliable for what they cover than DEBKA (on the rare occassions DEBKA isn't simply regurgitating what it gets off some newswire or newschannel) or Joseph Farah are on defense/terrorism issues.

Considering how old the Enquirer is and how often it publishes what is remarkable is not how many times they've been successfully sued, but how few times.

'As Mike said, if this story was erroneous, Rush could sue them out of business."

That might be what he's planning with his lawyer?

Fred Mertz spits:
You're not de Nile too, Jimbo? Buy a clue.

I can assure you, if Rush took 10 oxy's in one day, much less 30, he'd be dead. Very powerful medicine.

WHY is it I can buy the rational, reasoned argument of viligantcitizen and reject un-based assertion suggested by Fred Mertz?

Rush has our prayers. I am sure he will share when he is ready. If in fact the deafness was caused by medication , he will have suffered his share of emotional pain without all of his supporters targeting him.

Sometimes we make choices in our lives that " satan means for evil".....but " God can use for good".....I pray that this be so for Rush.

You'd probably take a pain killer too if your head hurt really bad (which ear problems can make happen).

She certainly doesn't carry money in that purse. It's probably empty like her head. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself. The devil made me do it.)

Rush is Toast? Big deal about this story. I listen to Rush. Rush doesn't sound like he has a drug problem. His thoughts are pretty clear. And if he does have a pain killer problem, that's his business. Maybe he's in pain. Anyway, he's not in an occupation which requires him to be drug free. He's not flying a plane or performing surgery. He's talking and whatever he puts in his body is ok by me because his oratorio is perfect.

Because you're missing the forest for the trees. The number of pills don't matter. When I buy a case of beer it lasts me two months....see the diff?

Does anyone recall which lib derided Rush and said that he was faking deafness for sympathy? I believe that it was either Bill Maher or Michael Moore (and I know that Michael Moore has said the same thing about Charlton Heston's Alzheimer's).

I know that I posted the detail in some threads in the past year or so but I can't recall the name and was unable to come up with the right search terms on google (even just scoping it to www.freerepublic.com and pages that have my name weegee). This is why I think that I have the wrong lib.

Rush is toast.

Do you even have a clue to what reality is? There is not one bit of evidence that any of the drug dealers allegations has merit. Rush has shown no signs of being an oxycontin junkie, hasn't missed enough time out of public to have been through detox twice. Not to mention that he could have gotten the stuff legally through a doctor with no problem. Rush was the victim of a severly botched extortion attempt

No, I assume he is guilty because the story is credible and because he certainly didn't deny it. (you said this about Rush)

No, I assume he is guilty because the story is credible and because he certainly did deny it

(change that one word and also the subject to The "toon,) are you saying that bubba is/was innocent? You would have to, using that logic.

Just a fleeting thought...Rush might be ill. And, soon, even more filthily rich.
