Can you spot the "No on Recall, Yes on Bustamante" voter on this picture? (Hint: he's got a wet nose)Awww... Don't be mean to that nice dog... It's the rat in the brush that will vote no on recall... :)

When will the exit polls start coming in? Anybody heard anything yet?? On pins and needles out here in Ca. Me too. Best bet, I guess, is to watch to see how grief stricken your local lib-uh-rhul news caster looks...

"I think it might be very important for all republicans and independents to make phone calls to their CA friends suggesting the same thing. This really could make a difference."
Yeah, my dad's got jury duty but I think I'm going to leave him a message in case he hasn't voted yet. Although he's in L.A. County, maybe he'll have an electronic system...
Hope everyone here will pass the word, every little bit helps...

but again, the question of what constitutes 50%+1 remains. Should we start a thread on this instead of derailing this one? Somebody freep mailed me suggesting so.

The situation is even worse IF a non-punch is equivalent to a NO. IN that case, the NO point of view would have an inherent advantage.

Apparently only parts of Orange Co. have this optical scanner. As discussed in posts previously, here in No. Orange County, we had a single-sheet large paper ballot.

It isn't, it's just an undervote, like any other.

Golden retrievers are the BEST! I am owned by three of them. A four year old female, a year old male, and a four month old female. Go Arnold!

It isn't, it's just an undervote, like any other. That appears to be the majority sentiment here. If neither YES nor NO is punched, there is theoretically no voter for that question, even though the same person may be a voter for Q2 and/or 53 & 54. The law says a majority of voters must vote YES for recall to succeed, and my question is basically what constitutes a voter for that purpose. You are saying teh person is a voter on Q1 only if either YES or NO is punched, otherwise, the person is not a voter for Q1. The contest is betwen YES chads and NO chads, not between YES chads and total ballots.

I agree.
California has worst road and highway pavement conditions in the nation. Source: The Road Information Program, December, 2001.
37 percent of major roads and highways in California are rated in poor condition, meaning they have potholes, cracking, and/or rutting. Resurfacing is necessary to repair the problem. Source: TRIP 2001.
Another 35 percent of California roads and highways is rated in mediocre condition -- this means 72 percent is either poor or mediocre. Source: TRIP, 2001.
California spends less money per capita on highways than any other state: $82 in 2000, just 56 percent of the national average of $147. Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio round out the bottom of the list -- but all spend more per capita than California. Source: TRIP, 2001.

I am not sorry you voted that way. It is a choice you felt you should make as a Republican. Same with the McClintok voters, they felt as Republicans that is the choice they should make. I might not agree with your choice but I am not going to throw a temper tantrum and call you names. I find what has been going on in this election, a reason to thank our founding fathers for the system they set up. It proves the wisdom of holding primaries.
