Rush a 'Little Frustrated' by Drug Allegations

Political commentator Rush Limbaugh (search) returned to his popular radio program Friday and said he was "frustrated" about allegations that he was involved in the sale and use of illegal drugs.

Limbaugh was back on the air one day after his name surfaced as the possible target of a criminal probe into the sale and use of illegal drugs in south Florida.

On the national program, which is carried by about 650 stations across the country, Limbaugh spoke briefly about the allegations of his drug use but avoided going into specifics. He said he was "a little frustrated" that he had not "gotten to the bottom" of what was happening.

"The story in Florida really is an emerging situation ... I don't really know the full scope of what I'm dealing with," he said. Limbaugh said he'd been humbled by all the supportive e-mails he'd received from fans, estimating he'd received about 25,000.

As for all the media stories that have emerged about the drug investigation, Limbaugh said that he was "tempted" to respond to them but "I'm not going to go there."

But he vowed to discuss the case in detail in the future.

"Rest assured, I will discuss this with you and tell you how it is ... maybe more than you really want to know about this," he said.

Just goes to show, that he really can do a show, with "half his brain tied behind his back, ..."

I guess he found out that doesn't work if the show is on ESPN.

"Are you still on probation?"

ah, no clue what you are talking about. I was never arrested.

So you don't believe in the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' thing, huh?

I don't in the court of public opinion. I firmly believe that Clinton is a rapist. He has never been charged, but nothing short of Juanita going on national TV and telling us that she fabricated every bit of her story will change my mind. Bill Clinton is a sexual predator and a rapist!

Libertarians support him? Well....I don't know. If the allegations are true, it would very hard for any libertarian to support him (at least in moral sense) especially since he supports putting other illegal drug users in jail.

Having said this, I hope that these charges are completely false.

So it sounds like your answer is no, you do not believe in the whole innocent until proven guilty thing.

You have a steel trap mind. Unfortunately it has already sprung.

His failure to say that today means that the story is likely true, at least in part. What he did say sounded a lot like "I don't know how much they can prove, and won't know what to say until I do." A sad situation...

Most likely it means: HE CANNOT SAY DUE TO ONGOING LEGAL INVESTIGATION!!! If I have to say that to one more moron on this board I'm gonna barf. WE are not the judge and jury. He will tell us when he is able. Dear God, I hate stupid people.

There are minimal cues that are detectible.

I agree, if you know what to look for and/or if the person fits the profile. But if the person doesn't fit the profile, i.e., a successful businessman, one might write off the tell-tale signs as a personality quirk. For example, a former client of mine, who was also my best friend, had a 15 year coke habit that finally caught up with him and ruined his business and marriage. Looking back, there were little hints that I should have taken as evidence of drug abuse, but that never crossed my mind because he had built a multi-million dollar business and had a wonderful marriage and didn't fit the profile of a cokehead. But then about 18 months before everything collapsed he started missing business meetings and appointments on a regular basis and showing up late to our weekly golf match. Near the end, he put on a lot of weight quickly, took less pride in his grooming and appearance, and became quite edgy and high strung. He had also stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from his own business. Looking back, I should have none he was a druggie ten years before I realized he was a druggie, which was still months ahead of when everyone else figured he had a substance abuse problem.

Exactly right....

I am sure that his lawyer, if he is a good one and I know he is, has advised him NOT to get into a p*ssing contest with the media by responding to something they print. There have been NO OFFICIAL charges against him and there may NEVER be. So not responding or commenting is the correct thing to do. From a legal perspective he could only hurt himself by saying anything at this time.

As for those of you who are whining about "why doesn't Rush just say he's innocent? Then it would be OK". I only need to remind everyone of this....

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky"

Did that make you feel better? Does that show you how valuable a blanket declaration of innocence would be?

so he never playes golf, vacations, and he didn't have those problems with his ears?

Frankly, given his wealth, I am surprised he does as many shows as he does. Remember how often Johnny Carson was on.

Hmm...not really, how 'bout you? Continually accusing someone of guilt because there was not a public confession in front of 20 million people is IGNORANT AND STUPID. My comment was not directed at those who are withholding judgment.

With no logical response to offer, you resort to half-witted ad hominem attacks.

Guess what? You just lost the argument!

If a little grade school kid can hide drug abuse, imagine what somebody with the intellect like Limbaugh could do. I am not saying he has, I have no idea....but it is amazing how one can cover up there addiction..its also amazing how every addict hits a bottom, and how ugly that bottom is....

You are absolutely right. If junkies are so easy to spot, then we wouldn't have any junkies in our schools and workplace. The problem is that junkies are very creative and able to explain away the overt symptoms for quite some time, particularly when they are surrounded by enablers.

Near the end, he put on a lot of weight quickly

All the coke addicts I have ever known have lost weight in such a rapid time that it was incredible. One girl I knew went from 150 lbs to 90 lbs!

A coke addict packing on pounds has to be a rare exception.
