We Must Fight the Evil Indians

We Must Fight the Evil Indians
I have learned from our champion that we must fight the evil Indians. The evil Indians are the fount of all evil in the world.
The evil Indians, our champion tells us, must share their wealth with us. They are rich and we are poor. We need their revenues to survive. They must give us a cut of their ill-gotten gain. It is only fair, says our champion. And we are so, poor, the evil Indians so rich. Our champion does not play that game.
So, I have learned well that this one issue the evilness of the Indians -- is all that matters. I know that no other questions or thoughts need come to my mind. I know this, so, it is with trepidation I must ask, no beg, with humble respect, and as supplicant, for I know only our champion can win -- such has been told me by the men who defend our champion and tell us only our champion can win -- so I ask the following of our ever victorious champions men
I know our champion will fight the evil red man who will not share his wealth -- will our champion also fight those who take our money and give it to the people who advocate and encourage young women to take their own child from their womb? Will he fight those who give our money money they have taken from us -- to the people who then pay for the women to take their babies from their womb?
Will our champion fight those who seek to classify and categorize us based on who our mother and fathers are, categorize and catalog us based on what foods we like to eat, what languages we may know, where our ancestors lived and how we look?
Will our champion fight those who seek to take our money, our hard earned pay, to give to men who are special friends of other men, who share a domicile and claim to deserve to take our money for their special friend solely because they are special friends?
Will our champion fight those who take our money and chase business -- our livelihoods -- away because if they do not take our money and chase business away, the Earth itself will heat up so hot it will kill us all so, we must save the Earth by giving our money to them and chasing business away.
Will our champion fight those who have our money -- our money which we gave freely to educate our children -- will our champion fight those who do not allow us to use our own money to educate our children in schools other than those which teach our children not to read and write and do arithmetic, but teach that if we do not want to give our money to special friends, or do not believe the Earth is soon to burn up, if we do not give our money away to save the Earth, then we are evil and bad.
Our champion says no. He will not fight those things. He is with those who do these things. He is their champion. He will fight only the evil, evil Indians who will not share their vast riches with us poor who have nothing.
Perhaps our champion, our Emperor pre-elect, perhaps, just maybe, our champion has no clothes?
Well
not perhaps. He doesnt. There are pictures. The men with special friends paid our champion for them.
Of course I know, only our champion can win. No other talk is allowed. Forgive me my vanity.

I'm sure you know that those issues exist in the other states where compacts have realized Indian Casino dollar contributions to help pay for the items I have listed. Thanks for the comments.
To: DoughtyOne
That's the part I don't understand - other states negotiated for and got those fees and such - why didn't California? Was it incompetence? Politics?
That is the question that needs answering... :0)

Well that is the question isn't it. There's the possibility of incompetence or even the idea this is fluid in the states as the issue becomes more fleshed out. Courts have rules no income taxes can be levied, but states are free to negotiate compacs that see revenues realized none-the-less. I'm not sure if agreements that have been arranged in other states were pre or post our own compacts.
To: DoughtyOne
Not sure. I know California was one of the early states to be sued for the right to conduct gaming, though...

Just when Native Americans found a way to be successful - Schwarznkennedy wants to destroy them by TAXING them back to the old Reservations. I just hate California right now. Our only hope is McClintock!! www.helptom.com

I was. I'm also apparently only one of a handful that is offended when people, in an attempt to shut others down, make mocking references to our American Indian conservative friends as "chief".
Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, but the way it has been used, it sounds like something that is intended to be insulting or demeaning.
I surely hope not.

Prop 5 included into the state constitution a model compact, written by the tribes, that basically enumerated every detail. A couple concessions were made to the governor who then signed compacts with the tribes. Who did it? The people of California who voted for Prop 5. So politics is the answer to your question. The tribes want to get more machines, tribes that weren't party to the first compacts want compacts as well, so everything now goes on the table.
Davis basically sent out his terms and told the tribes to take it or leave it, without sitting down to negociate. It was typical Davis management - since the issue hadn't passed the point of critical problem, it got put on the back burner so that he could attend more fundraisers.

What's worrying me is the constant ignorance and blatant hatred of Indians on Free Republic They made one major error.....they opposed the great and powerful Arnold.

That would explain it.
Of course, with Arnold's attitude, I can't blame them for supporting Anyone But Arnold... of course, Arnold took money from the indians to support his After School Program campaign he was running some time ago, too. "Oops".

You are mistaken. We are fourth generation Santa Ynezians, not people getting second hand gossip from friends. Two of my best friends have shown me the financial disclosures from their divorces. I have also seen bancrupcy notification/financial disclosure forms sent to a friend of mine by one of the tribal members. For the last couple of years the stipend has increased to $30,000 per month. Since the new Chumash Resort opened, the stipend has increased to $50,000.
Second hand gossip is exactly what you described in your assertion. A friend's statement. I deal with 34 members of the tribe on a near monthly basis. If they're getting $50,000 a month, they must have the worst gambling problems on the planet. I have seen and cashed the per cap checks, the highest I've seen was $3,400 for a family of four.

Actually, they do gamble away most of their checks, but you are ABSOLUTELY wrong about the amount received by the Chumash. You are living in the 1990s. They have not been in the single digits for ten years.

I am aware of the Constitution, and the Treaties. But I still see a conflict between special status for the Indians and the Constitution.
Such special status would seem to be in conflict with other parts of the Constitution, such as the Equal Protection section.

To: GladesGuru
Then I would suggest you take up your complaint with the Supreme Court. Indian tribes that have signed treaties with the United States are essentially no different than foreign nations that have signed treaties with the United States. BTW, the equal protection clause is set forth in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. As such, it would not override an article of the Constitution unless the amendment specifically set forth that it was overriding an article.
