NORWOOD, Ohio -- A local woman was laid to rest recently, but her family says she's not at peace.

Barbara Norris of Norwood died last week at age 63. Norris weighed more than 500 pounds, so her children were concerned from the beginning about making sure her casket was big enough, WLWT Eyewitness News 5's Sheree Paolello reported.

They make the world's best caskets, I understand. Their Batesville headquarters is one of the largest employer in southern Indiana. The location to which you refer no doubt enhances their ability to quickly provide a "time-sensitive" product. Talk about a stable market.....

"My mom had a lot of dignity,"

Her 500lb. bulk notwithstanding, right?

I know the transportation manager at Batesville. He can continuously spout off Casket-Morturary-corpse type humor like you wouldn't believe. Talk about morbid! Funniest guy I ever met. Guess that makes me a little morbid too. (admitting that you're a little morbid means you're halfway cured?)

i absolutely agree with you. i lost over a third of my body weight a few years ago by cutting back on junk and processed foods and concentrating on eating at least 5 fresh fruits and veggies a day. no gimmicks. no fads. just common sense. there were actually people insisting that i must have an eating disorder to be losing so much weight.

i'm guessing that the family didn't want to pay for a custom casket or couldn't afford it.

"My mom had a lot of dignity," she said. "She may have been a big woman, but she was a good woman. And he had no right to bury her like that."

This woman's weight is testament both to how much the woman herself and her family cared for her while she was alive. Now they are upset that no better care could be taken after her death. I'm repulsed; but, not by this poor funeral director who was probably doing everything he could to deal with an unrealistic expectation. Coffins ain't cheap. And you don't just design one overnight to handle that load. It isn't like making a mailbox. My bet is, they didn't want to pay for a custom one to be made. We'll see.

With all due respect (you ass) how are fat people supposed to take responsibility for their actions when they are dead? I always wondered what a SF Republican was like. It is as I suspected, you are warped by your surroundings.

Couldn't they build a custom box? Why are Americans so helpless these days?

I work for one of the companies mentioned in the article, not going to say which, but after some research I found that the casket did not come from either one of them.

I also live a few blocks from this Funeral Home and I have never heard any complaints about them, but anything can happen.
