October 2, 2003 -- FOX officials say they are thinking about spinning off two new channels from Fox News Channel - one for business and another for entertainment news.

Fox Entertainment president Peter Chernin told analysts this week that discussions were underway about creating two new channels from the highly successful FNC, according to reports.

I don't think a FOX entertainment channel might be such a bad idea. Think of it. The REAL story on all those Hollyweird lefties instead of the usual butt-kissing. They could really shake up the West coast if done right.

Interesting!

I'd prefer that they branched out into more newspapers, though... maybe buy up the LA Slimes? Or even get into weekly magazines and take over "Newsweek"....

A girl can dream ;-)

I know F&F is the highest-rated show of its kind, but I just can't watch it. Doocy should be hosting a game show somewhere. I watch CNBC here on the West Coast until that silliness is over.

And what do we do with Pat Sajac and Kasich?

FOX News on the weekends is WEAK (apart from Tony Snow).

Good. Get Rita Cosby and Shepard Smith off the news channel.

I don't care for Rita, but Shep is cool.

I agree...the business network field is already crowded, with CNBC, CNNfn, Bloomberg and the rest. Neal Cavuto surged to the head of the pack because he offers a perspective that's different from the talking heads on CNBC or CNNfn, but I'm not sure we need "Cavuto on Business" around the clock. Ditto for entertainment. I watch E! on occasion, and it's watchable for about five minutes before the banality drives me out of my mind. FNC does a good job with the entertainment stuff--particularly Bill McCuddy--but I'm not sure it's enough to build a network around.

A more logical expansion would be a FNC International outlet, bringing the "fair and balanced" approach to a global audience. The western Europeans would sniff, but it would be a ratings winner in places like eastern Europe and Asia. Barring that, I say don't dilute the product, concentrate your resources on crushing CNN and MSNBC once and for all...

Count me in also. I love Brit Hume and my husband likes to scream at mara liasson. But as soon as his show is over and Shephard Smith comes on, the channel changes.

Whoa, this is big news! Thanks for the ping, StarFan. I'll definitely ping the FoxFan list on this one.

I suggested to FNC awhile ago that I'd love to see a 24/7 LIVE version of the Fox News Channel, sort of like CNN's Headline News (in addition to the current FNC). I love the second chance to catch O'Reilly at 11pm ET, Brit at midnight, etc., but find myself switching to Headline News, MSNBC, etc. often when news breaks after 11pm.

Channels for business (like CNBC) and entertainment news could work well also, IMHO.

Fox NewsChannel has, in less than five years, taken over the ratings leadership in cable TV news.

Yeah, baby!!! :-)

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my FoxFan list. *Warning: This can be a high-volume ping list at times.

Where's my FOX News Canada dammit!?!?! We need some "Radio Free North America" up here before Canada turns into the next East Germany.

I think an international FNC spinoff would be an awful idea - CNN did that, and look what happened - we ended up with something EVEN more leftist than CNN USA (yes, it's possible). What FOX SHOULD do, and I think they are, is keep getting foreign media outlets to carry FOX. It's available in a surprisingly high number of countries considering its target audience is only the USA and that no ads are shown during the commerical breaks abroad. I also hear that wherever its shown internationally, the ratings are skyhigh.

Really...Same thought that I had! But if FOX does go ahead with the expansion, I hope they fare better than others.

...Don't forget the Heather Neuert channel.....

Heather went to Jordan to get the Iraq war campaign ribbon. She disgraced herself by doing her man on the street intervies in the hotel bar.

Fox is already international and was before there was an American presence. It's called Skynews.
