Commentator Rush Limbaugh resigned Wednesday night from ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown amid a firestorm that erupted over the controversial statements he made this past weekend about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion," Limbaugh said in a statement released by ESPN. "This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.

Honestly, I hope it's not true. Rush needs to get on the air asap and put an end to this if it's false. When bad news breaks, the worst thing you can do is let to fester unanswered.

If it is true, I suspect it may be graduation day at the Limbaugh Institute.

His loyal listners, myself among them, have enjoyed the benefit of his wisdom for years. Almost 11 years in my case. I would absolutely hate it if this is true, but it leaves me resolved. Resolved to break the cycle of the tragic conservative icon. How many of our conservative leaders have fallen because of irresponsibility? Gingrich, Trent Lott, etc.

The comments by McNabb in my view really take him down several notches as a man. Here he is, a professional athlete. He gets ripped royally in the media with many things that are probably worse than being called "overrated". And what does he do? Plays the aggrieved victim. Typical liberal steaming bullsh$t.

McNabb says apology wouldn't do any good, essentially saying, "I am so hurt by his comments I can never forgive him." "Poor, poor pitiful me."

How utterly and completely pathetic! Just based on McNabb's response alone, Rush is absolutely correct. McNabb is overrated. Big time.

Time will prove Rush was right on this. Unfortunately, we are running out of time. The liberals have declared a Jihad against any and all conservatives and, because most people are apathetic, are well on the way to victory.

By the way, I have always been an Eagles fan but I hope Washington kicks them from one end of the field to the other this week-end. If McNabb has his usual bad game the media will just blame it on Rush and the distraction he caused.

Dang, and I haven't gotten my cable back since the hurricane. I haven't had a chance to see any of his ESPN appearances, and now it's over before it really started. "Say la vee" as they say.

I'm no physician, but wouldn't that many pills affect his performance? Don't pain killers usually make you drowsy? Maybe it's just me but that seems like a ridiculously high number of pills, even if he was addicted. I suppose she is an illegal too, that would really ice the cake. Who the big Dem lawyer she's got? I'm sure many would be willing to pay him to chew on Limbaugh. Unfortunately, Rush has been praising gossips rags like the Enquirer, what's he going to say now?

"He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way. And that's how you get Capone."

- Sean Connery in The Untouchables

Good advice. Time for us to do the same to the liberal scum. Only attack works, defense never does.

I'm not saying I believe these allegations, but many a movie star (millionaires) have done things like this. I don't think millionaire status makes the difference, it's your moral character that does. If Rush isn't doing the prescription drugs, it will be because of his character.

Whoa whoa whoa. The guy may have gotten into a bad habit, he goes through detox, and suddenly we want to crucify him? Please.

I've had personal struggles myself--so has our President--and I bet everyone here on FR who is honest can say they've got their own problems. Do we wear them on our sleeve? No. Do we work through them? Yes.

Give me a break.

Uhh....he's a conservative Republican. The rules don't apply. Katie Couric can talk about Rush's drug problem but her adultery is off the table.

As for the Jihad on Rush and conservatives et. al., I do hope your assessment of who wins this is wrong. Well, it will have to be. The alternative is not acceptable.

As for the football side of this, I used to have a high regard for the Eagles under McNabb. They played good and tough. And I respected that. But with this stuff lately, the character of the team is represented by a pathetic wimp in McNabb.

Being a Cowboys fan, I have trouble usually figuring out who to root for when Redskins/Eagles get together. But, alas, this Sunday I will be pulling for the Redskins, their defense in particular. Let's see if McNabb plays the victim card with them when they knock him silly (at least I would love to see it anyway).

This drug investigation smells to high heaven -- hello Clintons and Carville!! Wonder how much the maid is being paid. Did a search on her attorney and found the following -- very interesting:

Democratic Fund-raiser Charged With Taking Illegal Contribution

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, July 10)

Justice Department's campaign finance task force has brought criminal charges against a fifth Democratic fund-raiser. Miami businessman Howard Glicken has agreed to plead guilty to soliciting a $20,000 donation from an overseas national in 1993.

A two-count "criminal information" charging Glicken violated the Federal Election Campaign Act was filed Thursday. A criminal information replaces an indictment when a defendant waives the right to have a grand jury consider the case.

"The agreement is that he will plead to misdemeanor charges," said Ed Shohat,Glicken's lawyer. "He has cooperated with the investigation from the inception and will continue to fully cooperate. Howard is happy to put the matter behind him."

Shohat also said Glicken would pay a fine as part of the plea agreement. Although each count carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine, the amount Glicken has agreed to pay is not yet clear.

The charges state that in April 1993 Glicken took a $20,000 contribution for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee from someone he knew was a foreign national and not a legal permanent resident of the US.

Thursday's charges did not contain the name of the foreign donor. But in February, the Federal Election Commission concluded there was "reason to believe" Glicken sought illegal contributions from Thomas Kramer, a German developer.

Although the charges are unrelated to the investigation of 1996 Clinton/Gore fund-raising practices, Glicken -- who has raised millions for the Democrats -- had been expected to play a role in Vice President Al Gore's possible presidential campaign in 2000.

Glicken is no longer associated with Gore, an aide to Gore told The Associated Press.

The Justice Department's campaign finance task force has already brought charges against Charlie Trie, Maria Hsia, Johnny Chung and Yogesh Gandhi.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
