Commentator Rush Limbaugh resigned Wednesday night from ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown amid a firestorm that erupted over the controversial statements he made this past weekend about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.
"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion," Limbaugh said in a statement released by ESPN. "This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.

I suspect this is going to be much more serious than a lot of posters on this thread are admitting. There are two reasons:
1. Note where the investigation is taking place: Palm Beach County. This was one of the Gore Vote Fraud strongholds in 2000 because it is democrat machine controlled. Limbaugh will almost certainly be indicted, regardless of the evidence. And, folks, there may be evidence against him. If indicted, he will get the maximum treatment any DA could ever give a defendant--an attempt to prevent bail, requesting the maximum sentance, phonying up possession for sale charges based on the volume reported etc. The jury will be drawn from as hostile a group as you might possibly imagine.
I hope he is squeaky clean. Because if he is not, he is in for a very long and painful battle that will last thru at least the 2004 election. The left sees this as their Murrah Bombing issue that they will ride back to political power and they may be right.
2. If there are criminal proceedings, he cannot comment on them on his radio show. So the stuff in the media will go unrebutted.
This will likely be a HUGE hit to the conservative movement. Rush has become like the background music. He can reliably expose the media's lies to millions every day. They tell their friends and the truth gets out. We have come to take that for granted.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I hate it for him.

Here's an FR thread that mentions Ed Shohat, Cline's lawyer. Isn't Shohat well connected?

Does McNabb get credit for a sack?

OxyContin's some serious stuff. Plenty of folks getting jail time for it. And, of course, Rush will lose out on any Federal financial aid for college.

If Rush was hooked on oxycotin, he would be a drooling, blithering and incoherent idiot, incapable of hosting a radio show 5 days a week.
Democrats and their media sychophants have launched a full-out war against the GOP.
In CA, they're busy smearing Arnold.
In D.C., they're busy trying to drown GWB in a bogus leak.
And across the nation, they're hoping to silence the hated voice of Rush Limbaugh.

Rush isn't scheduled to be on the air, today... he has a previous engagement.

Do you know if Rush will do his show today, or was he taking the day off to travel to NY for the awards ceremony?
To: kattracks
"I really don't want to see him," McNabb said. "You can say you're sorry all you want, it doesn't matter. It's been said."
Yep...some here will remember you saying this, Donovan...

I'm from the Philly area and it actually made the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Not the front of the sports section, but the front page above the fold. I didn't read the story (or buy the stupid rag) because, I wouldn't line my cat's litter box with that leftist rag.

No, he won't be doing his show today as he will be in Philadelphia giving the Keynote Speech to the National Broadcaster's Association.

I do too. This is serious stuff folks, and I'm sure it has much to do with his resignation at ESPN.
Don't know if any of you have read this article yet, but it really covers the drug probe better than any of the others I've seen.
READ THIS AND WEEP FOR RUSH. If true, this is very sad indeed.

I certainly hope the drug charges are not true. I can't imagine him having that much in his system and playing golf and doing a radio show.

Resigning was the wrong thing for Rush to do. He should have dared them to fire him. If they did, what does he have to lose? Better than being cowed by the Jesse Jacksons of the world.
