O'Reilly Accuses Franken of Launching a Dirty Tricks Campaign
imdb ^ | 09/30/2003 | Unknown

Posted on 10/01/2003 9:01:25 AM PDT by RightWingAtheist

Bill O'Reilly has told Time magazine that he has no regrets about pushing Fox News's lawsuit against Al Franken. "This man is being run by some very powerful forces in this country, and we needed to confront it," O'Reilly maintained. He did not define the "powerful forces." O'Reilly compared Franken with Donald Segretti, the "political prankster" who served four and a half months in prison on charges of dispensing false campaign literature for Richard Nixon. "Franken's job is to do exactly what Donald Segretti did for Nixon -- dig up dirt on people. He is not a satirist; he is not a comedian. He's someone who wants to injure people's reputations."

I'm not a fan of O'Reilly, but no one has offered a truer assesment of Franken's agenda.

Donald Segretti

I had the opportunity to work with him in the last 5 years. A very nice man.

"He's someone who wants to injure people's reputations."

This coming from the man [O'Reilly] who growled on-air to that kindly Neal Boortz, "you're a vicious SOB."

O'Reilly is a typical "do as I say, not as I do" type.

I think it was a guy named Dick Tuck who was the original political prankster who bedeviled Nixon in his 1960 campaign. It was what prompted Nixon to pursue dirty tricks during his 1972 campaign.

Prankin' Al Franken told Howard Kurtz that his letter to Ashcroft was not a lie, it was a prank. I think it was a

Frankenprank

Franken shouldn't have any problem playing Tricks this Halloween.

O'Reilly should just shut his fat mouth. I heard his latest rant about the black sportsman today. Guy is a complete maroon.

Right on! O'Reilly is an embarrassment to conservatives by embodying so many of the stereotypes the left relishes attacking. To his credit, however, he has tackled some tough subjects, though so many reflect the "Inside Edition sensationality" of his former program.

Just one correction: For my money, the Guy is a complete macaroon.

I remember Dick Tuck too. During his 1968 campaign, Nixon used the slogan "Nixon's the One!" However, thanks to Dick Tuck it kind of backfired on him when Tuck arranged for a number of pregnant women to parade around in front of the 'pubbies convention carrying signs with that particular slogan on them.

Actually, he was a registered Republican up until the mid 1990's when he switched his registration to Independent.

Bill should shut up until he can say for sure who these "powerful forces" are and how they influence Franken. If he was a guest on his own show, he would be asked to bring in some evidence before making such claims. I really dislike O'Reilly, and I think Frankens criticisms of him were sound.

O'Reilly is O.K. He'd be beter if he toned down his "i am the greatest" attitude.

He'd be better if he let up on his "everyone is subject to the harsh light of media scrutiny EXCEPT ME" routine. What a thin-skinned a**hole.

Did he make an observation on Limbaugh's portrayal of McNabb or did he make an original rant?

On Howard Stern today, O'Reilly explained that he needs armed guards because the rap music industry, foreigners, and people who disagreed with him all want to kill him.

I saw him speak to the NYS Broadcasters at their convention in Lake George this summer. He didn't have any guards, but then again the crowd didn't appear to fit any of those categories.
