Davis Panicking, Demands Bustamante Withdraw

NewsMax Wires
Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003
Fox News reports Tuesday evening that Democrats in California are “panicking” as the Governor’s recall race goes to down to the wire.

The cable network also reports that fierce infighting has developed between Gov. Gray Davis and recall candidate Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante.

The Davis camp is encouraging Bustamante to withdraw from the race.

According to sources, Davis’ polls show that if Bustamante pulls out, support for the recall would drop ten points.

Bustamante, meanwhile, is frantically trying to raise $1 million before the last weekend TV blitz -- but is getting stiff resistance from wealthy Democrats.

Fox says the Davis camp has been urging Democratic donors not to give to the Bustamante campaign.

According to John & Ken @ KFI, BustaMecha hasn't campaigned in 3 days.

They were saying that he ran out of money or something. Maybe Davis hired Tanya Harding ...

I've heard this argument for a few day but don't quite understand it. If the only dem gets out, won't that lead some dems to avoid voting, and aren't they more likely to be against the recall in the first place? Yes, I know that some Latino voters may vote for the recall if they can get Bustamonte into office, but I still don't see how there's a 10% swing in Davis' favor.

Any thoughts?

"According to John & Ken @ KFI, BustaMecha hasn't campaigned in 3 days."

I heard on NorCal radio that Bustabudget was doing a fundraiser in Redding at an Indian Casino no less. Anyone else hear about that? I'll check the local paper and post a link....

This is a very interesting scenario -- and I also suspect that this is why the GOP is perfectly content to have McClintock stay in the race. If McClintock drops out, a lot of his supporters may not show up to vote at all -- which would put the success of Davis' recall in jeopardy.

"In a related story, Davis' pollsters have determined that if he were never elected governor in the first place, he wouldn't be facing a recall election now." /sarcasm off/

Perhaps someone can furnish the Governor a copy of the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy the cover of which has clearly printed on the cover "Don't Panic"

I just thought of something, yeah it's probably stupid, but here goes...
Rush was asking today why all of a sudden it is Bush Scandal week? Why did it become so friggin' important...

Here's a take,
the Libs know they are in for a bad month or two, first, Arnie will beat Davis...which means lotsa pretty pictures of Arnie the new Republican Gov(though some here dispute the "republican" moniker)

Couple that with the near implosion of Clark,Dean, et al, and the Left knows it won't get any good press for at least a month or two...thus accentuate the negative(the fav Dem tactis) So we get Schuuuumer begging for some, any kind of scandal to attack Bush

Is this for real?

Typical NewsMax headline, just barely (if at all) supported by the article.

Because without BustaBooger in the race, any Rat voting for the recall knows in advance that he is voting to give the governorship to a Republican.

I'd imagine alot of the Mexican voters for Bustamante would switch to no if he got out.

Schwarzenegger Statement on Endorsement From The Latino Coalition

Arnold Schwarzenegger issued the following statement today upon receiving the endorsement of The Latino Coalition:

“California is a state that has been blessed and enriched by the contributions of immigrants from around the world. As an immigrant who is about to mark the 20th anniversary of receiving citizenship – and as an immigrant who was given the opportunity by California to pursue his dreams – I want all Californians to have the same kind of opportunity I was fortunate to have.

That is why I am extremely pleased to receive the endorsement of The Latino Coalition. The men and women who are members of this coalition share my belief that we must restore California’s economic climate – and restore hope and opportunity – for all who live here.

In addition, I’m committed to working with other governors and the federal government to address the issues involving undocumented immigration that affect California and the nation. The current system isn’t fair – to the people of California and to the nation – and we need to work on cooperative and forward-thinking solutions to these issues.”

Founded in 1995, The Latino Coalition is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that represents roughly 15,000 Hispanic leaders in business, media, public policy and education. Founded by Latino business men and women, the organization focuses on issues that are of importance to Latinos in the United States.

The text of The Latino Coalition’s press release announcing their endorsement of Schwarzenegger is attached. Further information about the organization may be found on their web side: www.TheLatinoCoalition.com.

So he'll only lose by 15 points now?
