While others mostly pandered to the Latino crowd by falling all over themselves, saying illegal immigrants should be welcomed and given driver's licenses and services, McClintock said they should receive no benefits at all.

He is right, but being right in politics no longer matters. Getting elected matters. Our politics are so miserable. McClintock on Top in California Illegals Debate

McClintock was asked what he'll say after the election if the G-O-P vote is split and the Democrats win.

His reply: "I will think it is a shame that Arnold Schwarzenegger got into this race after I had filed because he had split my vote." McClintock says Schwarzenegger is the one splitting GOP recall ...

The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he can’t win. California Republican Assembly

If all conservatives voted based on their principles, Arnold would pick up moderates and star-struck liberals, sealing the win for McClintock.

I'm sure that the Arnold-bots will be along shortly to repeat the same old tired mantras.

Oh brother.

Do we really need 20 threads a day on how McClintock beats BustaMecha?

Give it a rest already.

In other words, if one of them does not drop out, Cruz proably wins. The one that is further behind in the polls, I don't care which, should drop out of the race. Doing anything less is a slap in the face to the California Republicans suffering under years of Rat dictatorship.

I think the most important thing is to talk to your family and friends and have them pass it on. So many people have swallowed the liberal pablum that says Tom can't win.

Lots of people I know assumed I'd be supporting Arnold and they had no idea how liberal he was or how it was still very possible for McClintock to win.

Pass it on Freepers.

I guess this would be relevant if Schwarzenegger, who leads McClintock by 22%, and has virtually every conservative endorsement in the state, was under pressure to drop out or had hinted at it, or even had the slightest motivation to drop out.

Hard working Latinos don’t want to work so someone else gets free cheese either. Why it’s considered politically inexpedient to point this out I don’t know. Tom is simply being fair to Americans and legal immigrants.

Both McClintock and Schwarzenegger need to stay in as insurance against last-minute dirty tricks from the Dems. A day or two before the actual election, one or the other can choose to drop out but both should stay in until then.

It's a good result for Tom, but it's not about the THREE-person race that's actually being run, which has this Arnold guy in it too.

Also, in a state as liberal as this one is, I find it hard to believe that 56% of likely voters REALLY would vote for someone with Tom's positions (although how many are, in my view, fibbing is hard to guess), particularly when one considers that if Tom were the leading contender (as after a primary win someday soon?) in a race, he'd suddenly be cast as the Evil Demon Against "Choice" And For Assault Weapon Deaths!!

So I'm guessing that some fraction of those expressing that view are doing so out of frustration with Davis and Bustamante.
