Either McClintock or Schwarzenegger Likely Winner in California if Other Dropped Out |
With Arnold Schwarzenegger the Republican front-runner in the California gubernatorial contest, many GOP officials have pressured California State Sen. Tom McClintock to drop out of the race, fearing he will divide the Republican vote and allow Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to win. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted over the past weekend, shows that McClintock does indeed draw support away from Schwarzenegger, though not enough to deprive the actor of the lead among probable voters. But the poll also shows that if Schwarzenegger were not in the race, McClintock would likely be in first place by a substantial margin, rather than behind Bustamante.

While others mostly pandered to the Latino crowd by falling all over themselves, saying illegal immigrants should be welcomed and given driver's licenses and services, McClintock said they should receive no benefits at all.
He is right, but being right in politics no longer matters. Getting elected matters. Our politics are so miserable. McClintock on Top in California Illegals Debate
McClintock was asked what he'll say after the election if the G-O-P vote is split and the Democrats win.
His reply: "I will think it is a shame that Arnold Schwarzenegger got into this race after I had filed because he had split my vote." McClintock says Schwarzenegger is the one splitting GOP recall ...
The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he cant win. California Republican Assembly

If all conservatives voted based on their principles, Arnold would pick up moderates and star-struck liberals, sealing the win for McClintock.
I'm sure that the Arnold-bots will be along shortly to repeat the same old tired mantras.

In other words, if one of them does not drop out, Cruz proably wins. The one that is further behind in the polls, I don't care which, should drop out of the race. Doing anything less is a slap in the face to the California Republicans suffering under years of Rat dictatorship.

I think the most important thing is to talk to your family and friends and have them pass it on. So many people have swallowed the liberal pablum that says Tom can't win.
Lots of people I know assumed I'd be supporting Arnold and they had no idea how liberal he was or how it was still very possible for McClintock to win.
Pass it on Freepers.

LOL-Arnie is no Ronnie.

Tom McClintock having a shot at winning the governorship may put you to sleep, but it get's me to my feet.
I think it would be the best news of the year if McClintock supporters turned out and voted their conscience instead of buying into the RINO argument that "only Arnold can win."
If BOTH can win, then what is the rationale again for Arnold's candidacy? Oh yeah, there isn't one!
To: ElkGroveDan
You really do want Bustamante elected, don't you?!
A vote for McClintock is STILL a vote for Bustamante.
