Incorrect. The Republican party is largely, but not totally, composed of three overlapping but distinct groups of conservatives:
Jeffersonian Conservatives - those who follow Jefferson's dictum that "that government is best which governs least"
Economic Conservatives - those who believe in fiscal accountability, free-market type economics, etc.
Moral/Social Conservatives - those who believe that morals are important to have a stable society: family is important, no homosexual marriage, etc. etc.
Obviously, these overlap, but it is clear that a person can emphasize one or two, and even largely disagree with one while strenuously supporting one or two.
That is why there is such an argument over Arnold--he is an economic conservative, but not much of a moral/social conservative. He, is, however, within the Republican party because of that economic conservative stance.

Figures. Like I've said, it takes so very little to make a RINO-phile happy.

It's going to get even worse now that the USA Today/Gallup poll show the "McClintock can't win" line is a bunch of bull.
McClintock 56%
Bustamante 37%
MEMO To True Conservatives:
McClintock CAN win if you support him. It's time to come home.
To: Bikers4Bush
Well, what if Davis realizes he is going to lose and by imperial edict, suspends the Constitution of the State of California, declares a state of emergency, outlaws the Republican Party and orders the arrest of all Conservatives?

James Thurber: The Owl who was God Once upon a starless midnight there was an owl who sat on the branch of an oak tree. Two ground moles tried to slip quietly by, unnoticed.
"You!" said the owl. "Who?" they quavered, in fear and astonishment, for they could not believe it was possible for anyone to see them in that thick darkness.
"You two!" said the owl.
The moles hurried away and told the other creatures of the field and forest that the owl was the greatest and wisest of all animals because he could see in the dark and because he could answer any question.
"I'll see about that," said a secretary bird, and he called on the owl one night when it was very dark.
"How many claws am I holding up?" said the secretary bird.
"Two", said the owl, and that was right.
"Can you give me another expression for 'that is to say' or 'namely'?" asked the secretary bird.
"To wit", said the owl.
"Why does a lover call upon his love?" asked the secretary bird.
"To woo", said the owl.
The secretary bird hastened back to the other creatures and reported that the owl was indeed the greatest and wisest animal in the world because he could see in the dark and because he could answer any question.
"Can he see in the daytime, too?" asked a red fox.
"Yes", echoed a dormouse and a French poodle. "Can he see in the daytime, too?"
All of the other creatures laughed loudly at this silly question, and they set upon the red fox and his friends and drove them out of the region. Then they sent a messenger to the owl and asked him to be thier leader.
When the owl appeared before the animals it was high noon and the sun was shining brightly. He walked very slowly, and he peered about him with large, stareing eyes, which gave him an air of tremendous importance.
"He's God!" screamed a Plymouth Rock hen.
And the others took up the cry "He's God!"
So, they followed him wherever he went and when he began to bump into things, they began to bump into things, too.
Finally, he came to a concrete highway and he started up the middle of it and all the other creatures followed him.
Presently, a hawk, who was acting as outrider, observed a truck coming towards them at fifty miles an hour, and he reported to the secretary bird and the secretary bird reported to the owl. "There's danger ahead," said the secretary bird. "To wit?" said the owl. The secretary bird told him, "Aren't you afraid?" he asked.
"Who?" said the owl calmly, for he could not see the truck. "He's God!" creid all the creatures again, and they were still crying "He's God!" when the truck hit them and ran them down.
Some of the animals were merely injured, but most of them, including the owl, were killed.
Moral: You can fool too many of the people too much of the time.
To my personal knowledge, Thurber was in a number of groups that included the "Owl God's" men. Here he gives y'all a few clues. Y'all desperately need them.

Tom isn't going to be elected to be governor in California. You can either talk sense or nonsense. Advocating support for Tom at this point is nonsense.

I cant wait for McClintock's reaction until he sees that Arnolds aides are going to recruit Kelsey Grammer and Dennis Miller to run aganist Boxer-not him!!And the celeberity worshipping ladies here will be thrilled about that too.

what might happen if McClintock drops out and davis then cuts loose with some serious dirt on Arnold?
In that scenario it will be even more imperative that Mcclintock drops out in order for Arnold to win. Right now he may not need Mcc to drop out. However, if Mulholland drops a bomb than Arnold will need those Mcc votes immensely in order to avoid a Davis-Bustamante-Clinton win.

I think you missed the point. The new poll shows a REAL conservative can win this election and we don't have to get stuck with the lesser of two evil liberals. Or do you always support the most liberal Republicans?
To: DoughtyOne
Do you honestly believe that just because someone would vote for McC means that their vote would automatically translate to Arnold if he (McClintock) dropped out and chose not to endorse anyone or for that matter if he did endorse Arnold?
I don't believe that's the case. There are people that will and would vote for him no matter what.
To continue to desparage their candidate is a slippery slope that I don't think Arnold supporters should keep going down.
As someone pointed out, you still need those people to show up and vote recall YES.

Jeez.....there weren't this many threads about the Presidential election in 2000. That's because President Bush is at least a little bit conservative.

Yeah, thanks for your evaluation of who took the high road in this election cycle. You're welcome to that opinion.

That poll was of REPUBLICAN voters only.
How do you propose to keep the Democrats away from the polls?
