Ray Haynes Endorses the Recall
Email message from CA Assembly District 66 | September 29, 2003 | Ray Haynes
Posted on 09/29/2003 5:30 PM PDT by LaraCroft
To my fellow conservatives:
By now you may have heard that I have endorsed Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor. I have received a variety of responses to that decision, some good, and some bad. I understand them all, and I believe each of you need to know the reason I made this decision. It was not lightly made, and the result of a lot of discussion, thought and prayer. I take my role as a conservative in the legislature seriously, and my endorsement means something to me. I don't give it away lightly, and I do so only when I believe it promotes the causes in which we all believe. I believe this endorsement is true to those principles....

My appology to America for Arianna Huffington being Greek
9-29-03 | Dinokr
Posted on 09/29/2003 6:35 PM PDT by dinok
As a Greek American, I would like to take this time to apologize to America for the woman who calls herself Arianna Huffington. There are not that many of us Greeks in the United States. Yes we are a true minority, yet we refuse to act like one. Most of us have had humble beginnings and take pride in our accomplishments through hard work and tenacity. Most non-Greeks know little of us. One may think that Greeks exclusively work at diners and
well
just diners. Actually many of us are doctors, engineers, scientists, soldiers, teachers, auto-mechanics, plumbers, electricians, housewives, politicians and stockbrokers. While most of us are obscure in our excellence, some of us have achieved fame and fortune. The late Elia Kazan was one of Americas greatest playwrights. George Tenant, the CIA boss is of Greek descent, and so is William Pagonis, the general who was in charge of logistics during Dessert Storm. I will not bore you with others
trust me
there are many. Enter Arianna Huffington, the ex wife of petroleum industry owner and former politician. This former republican, turned hag during the famous California debate, Arianna has become anti-republican and how can we forget
anti-SUV!!! When asked why she takes trips on private jets, her answer is they were going there anyway. I rest my case
a Menza member she will never be....

Former governor now invisible in campaign (Wilson the TaXer)
Sac Bee ^ | 9/29/03 | Dan Smith w/The Buzz
Posted on 09/29/2003 6:44 PM PDT by NormsRevenge
For a man who helped launch the Arnold Schwarzenegger campaign with such gusto and is serving as his co-chairman, former Gov. Pete Wilson certainly has made himself scarce of late.
Wilson, who shared his campaign brain trust and many of his policy positions with Schwarzenegger, came out of the box strong in the days following the film star's candidacy announcement seven weeks ago. He happily appeared on national talk shows on Schwarzenegger's behalf.
But he pointed out that Schwarzenegger probably voted for Wilson's controversial Proposition 187 in 1994, a fact the actor's campaign later confirmed.
Since then, Wilson sightings have been rare....

Schwarzenegger Terminates Support ("right-wing crazy" used to be a vocal Arnold supporter)
National Review ^ | 9/29/03 | Glynn Custred
Posted on 09/29/2003 7:07 PM PDT by truthandlife
While in Austria this summer I was repeatedly asked whether I, as a Californian, would vote for their favorite son Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor. My answer was always an unqualified "Yes." Schwarzenegger comes from humble origins. He traveled to the United States with no resources other than muscles, a sharp mind, and ambition. He worked his way up from bodybuilder to actor to director and producer, wisely managing his earned fortune by virtue of his talent and hard work....

Why do the results of polls vary so widely? Channel 4's Investigator Joel Grover tracks down an explanation.
Frank Newport, the head of the Gallup Poll, was in the hot seat on Monday, trying to explain his organization's latest poll.
The head of the organization said, "We're happy to stand behind our data... What we're offering is a snapshot."
That snapshot shows Arnold Schwarzenegger surging ahead of Cruz Bustamante....

Bad News: Davis has 400+ bills sitting on his desk he can sign even after he is recalled.

On KFI this evening the hosts of the John & Ken show said that Gray Davis is sitting on over 400 bills.
They claim that he can sign these bills even after he is recalled. I believe they said he had 28 days after the election to sign these bills and make them law.
Can someone verify this?
If true, this is bad news for California....

POSTED: 6:21 PM PDT September 29, 2003 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The latest CNN poll shows, if the recall election were today, Arnold Schwarzenegger would win.
Schwarzenegger visited Bakersfield Monday afternoon for a fund-raiser at Seven Oaks Country Club. Channel 23 reporter Emily Valdez sat down with the leading recall candidate and got some answers that may not have been made clear during the recent debate.
On his last-minute tour of California, Schwarzenegger discussed how he will get the state out of its monstrous deficit.
"We have to go step-by-step," Schwarzenegger said.
Schwarzenegger leads the latest poll with 40 percent. If the latest poll is correct, Schwarzenegger could take the governor's seat even if Sen. Tom McClintock stayed in the race, KERO reported....

McClintock Dropped Out Of Campaign In '80s (Left Race When Opponent With Name Recognition Entered)
NBC San Diego ^ | 9/29/03
Posted on 09/29/2003 8:20 PM PDT by South40
LOS ANGELES -- Republican recall-election gubernatorial candidate Tom McClintock bowed out of a political campaign 17 years ago and lived to regret it, which may be one reason he is so loathe to concede the Republican gubernatorial recall race to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
State Sen. McClintock was the youngest member of the California Assembly in 1986 when he launched a run to succeed former Rep. Bobbi Fiedler, R-Northridge. McClintock knew if he won the GOP primary in the heavily Republican district, the position was most likely his.
McClintock dropped out of the race, however, after comedian Bob Hope's son jumped in. McClintock figured that he couldn't overcome the financial and name-recognition advantages that Tony Hope had.
Little-known Simi Valley Mayor Elton Gallegly stayed in the race, upset Hope in the primary and went on to win the general election. He's been the district's congressman ever since.
"I think that race left a bitter taste in his mouth," former McClintock aide Eric Rose said recently....
