Another way would be his judicial appointments. Presumably, Arnold will be picking Wilson people to be judges. Wilson's judicial appointments were not anything to write home about... but they were not terrible either.
Only slightly more likely than Tom Metzger taking over -- and that beauce of the condescending attitudes of liberals to "minorities".
But Shriver, RFK Jr and others are real and experieced. They know machine poltics and are not conservative.
Liberals do not want Cruz Bustamante to win the California Governorship. He is supposed to be seen and not heard and have no power whatsoever.
He will throw the dems in disarray if he wins.
There is no La Raza power base or power elite. To the extent there is even any "latino" politcal base it is as an adjunct of the liberal left mainstream dems and Dolores Huerta and Anotnio Viilaraigosa are good examples of that. Huerta did not even want to be seen with Bustamante ealrier this month so bitter and lon standing are their differences.
But, to the extent the rolly polly Fresno hick Bustamante has a power base I would love to see them go head to head with the Hollywood Marin country hub of power that dominates the state.
Schwarzenegger is in and of this latter Hollywood elite nexus. He may be more Santa Barbara than Marin, but he poses no threat to their power at all.
Bustamante can cause civil war in the dems.
This is why recall is paramount but Schwarzenegger is a fly in the ointment.
Simon, McClintock and Schwarzenegger should have let Issa take it. It would have been a show down between him and Davis.
Bustamante was never supposed to be in this position nor be governor ever.
The numbers bear this out. His numbers are below those against recall. Mainstream dems do not support him.
He is not part of the elite and never has been. In no way does this mean he is good or on our side.
But the problem is, Schwarzenegger isn't on our side either. He is with the Hollywood media elite -- that's all he knows literally and figuratively.
He came up, out, and in that way. That's all he knows except for also knowing the Kennedy way.
He poses no threat whatsoever to the democract elite and their power base.
Your post has been nominated as one of today's MOST OUTRAGEOUS COMMENTS for your suggestion that it would be better having Bustamante as governor than Arnold. You'll be thrilled to know that your comment will be added to the Hall of Shame, comprised of other shrill comments by McClintock's increasingly desperate supporters, such as:
-- Posts (plural) that proclaim that "if you vote for Arnold, you're not a Christian."
-- An admission that some are creating an "enemies list" of sorts made up of the FR screen names who support Arnold, and of organizations that support him, intended to be a list of people and groups who have proven themselves "unreliable."
-- A suggestion that there needs to be a "true conservative" challenge to President Bush for the nomination, so McClintock should run against him in the primaries. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990293/posts)
-- A suspicion about Darrell Issa's claim that McClintock made a promise to him that his candidacy would not damage the chances of electing a Republican in the recall, because Issa is "a terrorist sympathizer." (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990452/posts?page=246#246)
-- The comment that "Arnold wants to use your tax dollars to slaughter unborn children," along with the corresponding comment that Arnold's supporters are "babykillers." (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990641/posts?page=81#81)
-- The suggestion that Arnold is a rapist/woman-hater who is not only like Bill Clinton, but "Arnold IS Bill Clinton!" And in an encore performance, the claim that Arnold's supporters have become Clinton as well. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990490/posts?page=36#36)
-- The wish, because of White House involvement in encouraging candidates who can actually win, that "With any luck, Karl Rove will be in prison in fairly short order." (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990793/posts?page=12#12)
-- One's hope that he will lose his job and that the entire California economy will tank, simply to embarrass Governor Schwartzenegger. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990490/posts?page=26#26)
Schwarznegger also supports tribal gambling expansion and took campaign dollars from them for his earlier proposition to provide day care for kids after school at taxpayer expense.
Schwarzenegger is close with Nevada gambling concerns as well, which may partly explain his focus on this issue. But really it is Bustamante abusing the system. McClintock actually could have done the same thing as Bustamante and used the same loophole but did not.
Cruz and Arnold, though, aren't that different.
You also miss the dynamics of this recall. It is not Dinkins vs Giulianni.
Bustamante did not win the support of his party for this.
He is damaged goods going in, a vulture not a victor.
And no, your recall election is NOT analogus to ANY other election, since other states haven't pulled one off. Still and all, Arnold is NOT for partial birth abortion and Rudy is. I could go on, but I doubt you'll listen to reason/facts.
They are "WHINOs", Republican "Not-Even-In-Name-Only," my-way-or-the-highway conservatives. In fact, I'm not even sure they're conservatives; they impress me as simply cranky old farts.
