SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- As a growing number of GOP heavyweights rally behind Republican gubernatorial hopeful Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sen. Tom McClintock risks being labeled a "spoiler" if his candidacy costs the Republicans the election.
But former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader, widely considered a spoiler for taking votes from Democrat Al Gore in the 2000 election, said dropping out now would cost McClintock a major loss of integrity.

"He could become a word in the dictionary: 'McClintocked'..."That would be a new synonym for the word "spoiler".

"Nadered" sounds better.
As for Tom, support from Nader is not good IMHO.

Depends how you look at it. California is a grossly liberal state, and some might contend that if McClintock wasn't running, many Californians would feel that Arnold's supporters were too conservative, and that the conservatives would have too much influence over him. It may be that only because many lefties view arnie as a closet liberal that he will be able to get elected. That McClintock might not get elected shouldn't be a real surprise in that state, and if it was between McClintock and Davis, Davis would have a much better chance of winning the recall yea/nay vote.

Just another ploy by the Bustamonte supporters to keep Mc Clintock in the race to get Cruz elected.
There are plently here that think just like Nader.

McClintock stepped aside on Wednesday when he didn't challenge a single word Arnold said, all night long. Esentially, he backed up Schwarzengger, taking on Bustamante toe-to-toe (and destroying him), while Arnold got to knock around an easy target in Huffington. He helped make Arnold look better than anyone expected. And he made himself look pretty damn good in the process.
On 1/13th of Schwarzenegger's war chest, without a trace of star power on his side, McClintock has effectively forced Arnold to run to the right. Without McClintock, Arnold might have had to play nice with Bustamante/Davis' core constituency. I seriously doubt Schwarzenegger would have given a real "no new taxes" pledge -- which he absolutely did -- if it hadn't been for McClintock's presence in this race. Not with Warren Buffett in such close proximinity in the early stages of his candidacy.
When the book is written on this election, McClintock will be remembered for having served his party well. He kept Schwarzenegger honest, and forced him to do a decent imitation of a conservative (which he has). Tom doesn't have to break his word and drop out. He just has to back off a little. He began doing that on Wednesday, while making a strong enough impression to be remembered when it comes time to take on Barbra Boxer.
The anger and contempt he's been receiving around here is entirely unwarranted. We should be thanking the man. He ran a helluva campaign.
There, I made my peace with this thing. Good luck to Mr. Schwarzenegger.

There are plently here that think just like Nader. Actually, Nader has goals he's trying to achieve.
These people here just hate Arnold. For them, it's all about hate.

Nah, no hatred for McClintock out there... I don't hate Tom. But I might if and when he's successful in getting bustamante elected.

McClintock embarassed Bustamante on Wednesday night, while Arnold had all the fun. That's why Schwarzenegger was universally declared the "winner", while McClintock took second prize and a ton of refound respect.
Mission accomplished on all fronts. Arnold's a lock. Bustamante's been discredited. And McClintock's a household name. Everybody wins.
It couldn't have worked out any better. You'll see.
