EL PASO, Texas - Two buses carrying nearly 100 people making a "Freedom Ride" to bring attention to mistreatment of undocumented immigrants were stopped for nearly four hours Friday at a U.S. Border Patrol station.
The riders were asked to leave the buses and were questioned, said Hilda Delgado, a spokeswoman on the buses. All were later released, and the buses were back on the road to San Antonio by about noon.
Border Patrol officials in El Paso confirmed that two buses were stopped, but said they were still gathering information. A message left at the checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, 75 miles east of El Paso, wasn't immediately returned.
Delgado, who said she is a U.S. citizen from Los Angeles, wouldn't say whether any of the individuals on the buses were in the country illegally. She said they held up Freedom Ride cards to officials who questioned them.
The cards say that the ride is peaceful, that they exercise their right to remain silent, that they don't consent to a search and don't give up any rights. The card also has the name of a lawyer to contact.
"We have been singing solidarity songs on the bus," Delgado said. "We are trying to expose the injustice of current policies toward immigrants."
Delgado said the people on the bus represent 10 million undocumented immigrants who contribute $730 million each year to the U.S. economy.
"They want to reunite with their families and contribute to the economy," she said. "Our immigration laws need a road to citizenship."
The cross-country caravan, backed by organized labor, began Saturday. Nearly 1,000 people were to join the ride, with 18 buses planning stops in communities including Washington and New York.

Thank you. !! I had to do the math 2 times to make sure I understood my results. If all I was contributing to my state/local economy every 365 days was a total of $$73.00 or to put it even worse: about 20 cents per day. What in the world does it take for the state and federal legislators get the correct picture? I know a great deal of the deficit in Calif is due to the open door mess with the illegal aliens. They have to cost us more than 20 cents per day!!!
Can someone clarify this for me? Do we have bogus figures?

Mine the border?
Unions complain all the time about jobs going south of the border. The jobs don't have to move any longer. Our representatives are allowing the illegals to come take them here... and making it legal for others to come with work visas.

I agree the Dems are no better. However, it is Bush that is doing us so much harm by not enforcing the laws. Also, he is nothing more than a politician wanting to take the credit, mush like Jimmy Carter.
I am so angry.

Check this out from our proetst email later today!
The TEAMSTERS are being hired as baby sitters/security for the Mexicans and all other third world riff raff involved in this event and actually grabbed away and herded away a bunch of Mexicans that confronted a group of counter protestors in Minneapolis. It is reported that the militant Mexicans explained to the American counter protestor that, "YOU STOLE TEXAS, CA., etc. from us and we are going to take it all back now".

$87 Billion for reconstructing Iraq - how about a billion or two for reconstructing/securing the southern U.S. border?

Ok, I'll say it straight.
If federal and state government officials (elected and appointed) do not stop abetting this illegal activity and the out and out invasion of our nation...if they do not uphold our laws and protect our borders...then one day there is going to be physical fighting and bloodshed over this on a large scale.
A growing percentage of people are waking up to the ill effects of the flood of illegal aliens on our economy, on our culture and on our way of life...and they are geting mad and symbolically up in arms over it. If not addressed and corrected...particularly in this time of war...the time will come when they are literally up in arms over it.
...and this does not even begin to address the hundreds of thousands of "OTMs" (Other than Mexicans) which are coming in under the cover of this. Tens of thousands of those each year are middle eastern and most probably islamic. What do you suppose a large number of those are comning here to do?
When you add up the massive outsourcing of our manufacturing, technology and agircultural base to this absolute invasion of illegal aliens who are sapping our economy even further (and that is clear by these idiots own statements when they let slip that 10 million contribute 750 million meaning $75 dollars each per year...what do you figure it is costing us each year to have each one of them here in terms of social costs, legal costs, and in terms of job money going out of the country?)...when you add it all up you come up with a situation that is literally destroying our nation and our ability to remain independent and soveriegn...and that is the exact aim IMHO.
Jeff
