EL PASO, Texas - Two buses carrying nearly 100 people making a "Freedom Ride" to bring attention to mistreatment of undocumented immigrants were stopped for nearly four hours Friday at a U.S. Border Patrol station.
The riders were asked to leave the buses and were questioned, said Hilda Delgado, a spokeswoman on the buses. All were later released, and the buses were back on the road to San Antonio by about noon.
Border Patrol officials in El Paso confirmed that two buses were stopped, but said they were still gathering information. A message left at the checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, 75 miles east of El Paso, wasn't immediately returned.
Delgado, who said she is a U.S. citizen from Los Angeles, wouldn't say whether any of the individuals on the buses were in the country illegally. She said they held up Freedom Ride cards to officials who questioned them.
The cards say that the ride is peaceful, that they exercise their right to remain silent, that they don't consent to a search and don't give up any rights. The card also has the name of a lawyer to contact.
"We have been singing solidarity songs on the bus," Delgado said. "We are trying to expose the injustice of current policies toward immigrants."
Delgado said the people on the bus represent 10 million undocumented immigrants who contribute $730 million each year to the U.S. economy.
"They want to reunite with their families and contribute to the economy," she said. "Our immigration laws need a road to citizenship."
The cross-country caravan, backed by organized labor, began Saturday. Nearly 1,000 people were to join the ride, with 18 buses planning stops in communities including Washington and New York.

"What we need are busses of angry US citizens decending on the US capitol to demand the securing of our national borders and the arrest and deportation of all illegal aliens."
That is EXACTLY what we need!

Jeff... I would like to thank you for writing the "Dragon's Fury" novels. They are at the top of my list of reading material. Tom Clancey has nothing on you!
Someday I hope to catch-up with you and have them autographed... before the pages wear out from reading them.

Thank you very much for those very kind words.
I am writing the
THE DRAGON'S FURY SERIES
out of my concern for current geo-political conditions both at home and abroad. The continued open borders to the flood/invasion of illegals, the continued rampant outsourcing to potential and actual adversaries, etc. all come together to create a very dangerous condition IMHO.
Volume IV will be out in November. I know you will like it.
You have Freamil.

Any info on how much wealth is shipped out of country to our neighbors to the south??Yes, 2 articles recently posted here state the wealth shipped south is the largest foreign income and second largest income next to oil. Disgusting isn't it.

These illegal aliens (oops, no PC) are a clear and present danger. Our transparent borders are a security concern and a health concern.
No, we are not Xenophobes thinking the Hispanic crowd is a danger, but the ease at which they traverse our borders is an obvious danger.
The health concern is very real, many diseases we have "conquered" here in the U.S. are not conquered worldwide. Legal immigrants get screened/vaccinated etc. but not the illegal immigrants.
The solution is both simple and yet very complex. The borders are underfunded and understaffed. Our economy engine is still "ramping up" although sometimes sputtering.
The political pandering is a realization that the economy would suffer greatly if any real effort to "send them back" occurred...until the economy is "humming" again. In the meantime since we can't financially risk removing them, the effort is to politically pander to the Hispanic voting block, not in the hope of getting alot of it but to "dilute" the voting block the "other" party counts as a given.
Yes, they are hard workers. Yes, they do work many wouldn't. It is wrong to allow them to "cut ahead in line" of legal immigrants who are just as hardworking and eager if given the chance.

They really hate the U.S.
If the liberals were givin the U.S.S.A. they're demanding, they'd have to work to survive like everyone else. I wonder if they're aware of that.

Good point! In indigenous areas, particularly the SW of the US, the mexican community see's more hanta virus and many from the midwest and upstate have not even heard of it.
