*Poll says McClintock could win 1-0n-1 matchup*

Brother Hugh, some news.

John Eastman, a professor of law at Chapman University and a frequent guest on your radio program, has just brought to my attention a poll that will interest you. Commissioned by the Lincoln Club of Orange County, the poll includes the following results:

If Arnold Schwarzenegger found himself in a head-to-head race against Cruz Bustamante--that is, in effect, if Tom McClintock dropped out of the race--then Schwarzenegger would win, 44 to 37 percent.

But if Tom McClintock found himself in a head-to-head race against Cruz Bustamante--that is, in effect, if Schwarzenegger dropped out of the race--then McClintock would win, 42 to 40 percent.

From the beginning, Hugh, you have made a single argument against McClintock, insisting that he cannot win.

But he can.

BTW, maybe you can answer a simple question I put to one of Arnold's poll-citing supporters a few posts back, which was ignored. Which poll establishes that 70 percent of conservatives in CA dislike McClintock?

In the real race it is at best 50-50 for Schwarzenegger.

Approximately so, yes. Probably a tad better, based on a glommed-together reading of several polls.

In any event, "in the real race," 50-50 or a tad better appears to be a lot better odds than McClintock's, whether I like it or not.

Hey, at least you're not doing what JC is doing, dissembling with such responses as "well all polls are hypothetical" and "oh so Dewey defeats truman."

Which poll establishes that 70 percent of conservatives in CA dislike McClintock?

None. There was a poll that had McClintock's support amongst self-identified "conservatives," at 30% of that group.

I suppose one could read a "30% yes" as a "70% no," but that's a stretcher, as Huck Finn would say. How about just straightforwardly saying (if one's agenda is to try to show how marginal Tom is, or whatever), "Tom only got 30% of the conservative breakdown in this poll, so 70% must have picked someone else," blah blah.

Hate to burst your bubble on those photos but did you ever take a look at Arnold when he was younger? Those photos could bring in the female vote like you have never seen before -- from Grandmothers on down to new female voters!

Going to backfire using photos from before Arnold was married and trying to make them relevant to today! More of the dirty tactics of the RATs, but this one will not work!

. . . does that mean that the other 70% are Arnold's base?

It likely means many things. It's likely a mix of a relatively small base (maybe 30 percent) with a much larger contingent of softer support (bandwagon effect). However, you suggested earlier that it means 70 percent of California conservatives do not like McClintock. Haven't you overstated your case? Or do you know about a poll the rest of us don't?

Nice condescending 'tude you have going in that one. (I'm reminded of Al Gore: "I can't believe I'm losing to this guy!")

At this point, is there anything Schwarzenegger could say or do (or to have said or done) that would cause you to rethink your support of him? Anything at all?

I am having a hard time lately believing I am still on the same site. This is FR, isn't it? I can't believe people are defending this stuff.

The more I read McClintock supporters trying to explain how their guy can win, the more it reminds me of the "Far Side" cartoon with two scientists drawing up a huge equation that fills a blackboard, except for this one spot where they've written "...and then a miracle occurs..."

30%? California's largest conservative organization, the California Republican Assembly, endorsed McClintock by over a two-thirds margin.

I'm not calling you names. You are what you are: a hater.

I'm a hater too.

I hate liberals who join the Republican Party. I hate RINOs. I hate their enablers. I hate the socialism that all of them are trying to force upon us.

Great! I'm on your S--- list. I'll wear it as a badge of honor...

Don't flatter yourself. You are simply #1 of the 3 of avoiding the content.

Anyone calling me a lib is ignorant of my viewpoints. The good thing about FR is that you can view Posting history

More flattery. Like I care that you really are a Conservative. Someone recently said something great on this; "a Conservative is by what they support, not who. " This means you probably are indeed a Conservative based on what you believe in, as well as it means that (R)nold is not a Conservative simply because he is friends with Milton Friedman and has a bust of Ronald Reagan.

I view Arnold as our best shot at capturing the Governorship. It's purely a pragmatic viewpoint...So... it's Arnold or Cruz

You can call it pragmatic if you wish, but it sound more like "Circular" Logic than twisted to me. What did the poll say on this very thread for instance?

Ran away from my response, but tried to piggy back on someone else's I see. Pathetic.

FYI, I already did about the 70.

How many will be rejoicing when this whole Tom vs. Arnold routine is over? Come on...I can't be the only one!

I will. I've never seen so much whining and crying by so-called adults. "Waaah! Pull this thread! I don't like it! Waaaaah! Mr. Moderator, he changed the title!"

Barf. What children.
