*Poll says McClintock could win 1-0n-1 matchup*

Brother Hugh, some news.

John Eastman, a professor of law at Chapman University and a frequent guest on your radio program, has just brought to my attention a poll that will interest you. Commissioned by the Lincoln Club of Orange County, the poll includes the following results:

If Arnold Schwarzenegger found himself in a head-to-head race against Cruz Bustamante--that is, in effect, if Tom McClintock dropped out of the race--then Schwarzenegger would win, 44 to 37 percent.

But if Tom McClintock found himself in a head-to-head race against Cruz Bustamante--that is, in effect, if Schwarzenegger dropped out of the race--then McClintock would win, 42 to 40 percent.

From the beginning, Hugh, you have made a single argument against McClintock, insisting that he cannot win.

But he can.

The mantra among many here has consistently been "McClintock is unelectable."

Now it's, "he's only within the margin of error so it's 50-50".

The Tom can't win is self fulfilling prophecy. It's the toilet paper shortage all over again.

Many of us knew this all along. Schwarzenegger should drop out. He's too liberal, and unqualified.

I don't care what happens to California. You're going to get the governor you deserve, which is a scary thought, isn't it?

BTW, the only certainty in this election is that there is no certainty.

And you now have a strong track record of missing the point, so I'll assume that you'll miss the one in this post, too.

McClintock can't win this race, isn't going to win this race, and the only roll he can possibly play in this election is to cost the Republicans a victory.

Correction: McClintock can't win this race, isn't going to win this race, and the only roll he can possibly play in this election is to cost Schwarzenegger and the Kennedys a victory.

You don't know that McClintock would be a disaster any more than you know that Schwarzenegger will be the second coming of Ronald Reagan

Do you think the legislature is going to give McClinton even a NY minute? If an outsider like Arnold wins and wins big, they will have to give him some consideration. Someone who makes a living in front of a camera is goign to be more persuasive with the public than someone who cuts backroom deals.

Awww, somebody's feeling left out of the Recall fun in boring Missouri. Tough.

Makes me think you have a contrarian viewpoint and you couldnt survive without Davis or Bustamante to blame.

No, but that's going to be true for (R)nold if he gets elected. My viewpoint is called "Conservatism" maybe you've heard of them.

Again I ask, what has Tom ever accomplished besides saying no? Gotcha.

No, you are asking for the first time, also rather than attempting to play "gotcha" games, Out of State Know-It-All, perhaps in your superficial analysis of California history you might have picked up that the Car Tax has been illegally tripled (you know, the one that stoked alot of this Recall fun) was to undo a law Tom personally sponsored. Tom does that, its called "having a policy". Na, knowing that would be too easy for someone who knows anything and everything about the Peoples Republic of California, from flyover country. Maybe you can take a break from lecturing tonight at 8pm Central time to watch the debate, if its available in Missouri.

Look, can't you see that she has bested you in argument?

I suggest you retreat while you still have a chance, sir.

On Aug. 28, 2004 the CA Senate passed the "Domestic Partners' Legislation...... Where was McClintock? He didn't vote on it either up or down...... Maybe some of the Conservatives are upset with him about that, who knows....

Schwarzenegger should drop out.

His stage managers won't allow that.

The Arnold groupies made such a FATAL ERROR RIGHT FROM THE GET GO by spitting in the face of conservatives. They could have had it all. But there's not a conservative bone in their collective bodies. NO REPUBLICAN CAN WIN IN CA WITHOUT THE CONSERVATIVE BASE. Go, McClintock! www.helptom.com

Now [the mantra is], "he's only within the margin of error so it's 50-50".

But, again: the poll result to which you're referring derives from a hypothetical situation that is, at best, unlikely to be presented to voters.

It clearly shows that, had neither Arnold nor other major GOP candidates run (and stayed in the race), McClintock could win a squeaker over Bustamante.

So my point is, the poll doesn't show Tom IS within the margin of error, etc., but rather that he COULD HAVE BEEN. "Could have been" isn't "is," with apologies to Billy Jeff.

They are beyond rational debate. Their support of Schwarzenegger is glandular. That irrational support is likely to carry over to his performance in office, which means he will have license to do things they would recall a Democrat governor for doing.

And they wonder how they got into the mess they are in.

They do their own polling, not for public release. They want accurate objective polling data.

Do you know when this was taken? Was it recent or was it sometime back when they made their endorsement? Any Ideas?

All electability-predicting polls are hypothetical, including the polls showing Schwarzenegger in the lead.

Well don't tell me the CA Conservatives are shallow in their support

hmmm.

If they were so strong in support of and believed in McClintock it wouldn't matter what anyone said or who the other candidate was.

Well, that sums it up for me, the rest of you people just aren't that bright.

"Gray Davis has just started talking about the environment the last few days," Schwarzenegger said. But he backtracked when reminded of recent legislation signed by the governor, saying, "I'm not aware of all those bills that he has signed the last year."

Arnold wants to be the far left environmental whacko in this race.

NO REPUBLICAN CAN WIN IN CA WITHOUT THE CONSERVATIVE BASE.

Again I ask you why doesn't the CA Conservative base support McClintock with more than 30% of their vote? What do they know about him that keeps their support down below their support for Schwarzenegger? They are supporting Schwarzenegger greater than McClintock so maybe that is why Schwarzenegger is leading, huh?
