Had my cable not come on at 10am I would have done the same thing as you - I was in serious info withdrawl!!!!

But hubby had to go to work at 1, and the idea of my cooped up 5yo in the car with me was not an appealing thought.

I can tell they are still working on the lines - my power has flickered more in the past 20 minutes than it did all day yeaterday. I can see it now - I get through the storm with power and it goes out now that the wind has subsided. SHEESH!!!!!!!!

94% of people in Tidewater area with no power, 49% of DC metro area, 82% overall. Dominion Power says it's the worst storm in their 100 year history.

My guess is that they don't really have a clue yet as to the damage in the mountains, places you can only get to by driving on miles of dirt road, now blocked by dozens, if not hundreds, of downed trees.

CobaltBlue, last night when at 1 when I was driving down to my stepdaughter's house, it was still windy and raining, a fine drizzel that was almost horizontal. Lots of traffic lights out, slick shiny, wet roads. I couldn't see much damage because it was so dark.

They live inside the Beltline in a neighborhood that is filled with old, big houses and lots of "greenry," so it made it that much harder to see on the narrow streets.

When I turned into her road, I was intent on getting into her driveway, so I guess I wasn't paying that much attention. If it hadn't been for the SOCCER CONES in the road, I would have driven right INTO a tree across the road!!! The orange got my attention and made me look closer, otherwise I would have just plowed right into the "green stuff!"

Now I know why they say staff off the roads!

Checking in. Kent Narrows (MD Eastern Shore) was hit hard with the surge. It had to be between 6-8 feet. Many boats that were hauled out and on land floated and crashed in to each other and the surrounding buildings.

We had power until a sailboat (at the Narrows) drifted in to a power line and the electricity arced and caught the boat on fire (no injuries). The power just came back on.

Overall, from what I've gathered from the news and radio, the Chesapeake Bay got the brunt of the surge in excess of predictions, and most of the damage was on the Western Shore.

This storm made history for the bay.
