15 miles from the Atlantic and 9 miles from the ChesapeakeThat's not much of a land buffer to slow the thing down. Hope you all come through this safe and sound.

I was not aware of that....
If trees are falling at such low winds....this could be catastrophic.

I'm sort of guessing that the real problem might turn out to be flooded tunnels... Or that we seem to lose electrical power when someone sneezes...:^)

Yowser--and the eye is back to 45 miles again, albeit partially open. This is an amazing storm.

Something substantial definitely appears to have started going on in the vortex just within the past hour or two.
To: Interesting Times
That is suprising....if it keeps doing this, the winds will have to respond surely unfortunately.

Tornadoes all over the place. Yikes!...And, I thought doing without FreeRepublic for a couple of hours was going to be rough!

I was in making dinner. Did this thread get locked at some point?

I wonder how that 953mb pressure will compare to the readings to be taken by the plane shortly.

But, the focus is on the wind and that is what I am focusing on due to that.Factor in that we have had record rainfall in VA this year; the gound reached maximum saturation weeks ago.
Even sustained forty mph winds with all the rain coming would cause major flooding, trees uprooting, and so forth.
I'm afraid we are going to have a real mess to clean up in a day or two.

It seems like the grey line (sea surface temp) is a leading indicator, if one looks at this thing like a stock chart. And of course, that would make sense.

Something substantial definitely appears to have started going on in the vortex just within the past hour or two. What data exactly are you referring to?

Whew, just read thru the flame war. Anyway, Baltimore schools closed tomorrow,,kids are celebrating!

This storm is schizophrenic; lower presser, but lower wind speed. I wish Izzy would make up its mind (perferably to weaken).

The eastern slopes of the mountains are going to get a deluge.
The warm moist air will get wrung out on the upslope. Western Va, Wva ,Central Pa are going to flood out, I expect.

What I am saying is that the storm does not look good AT THIS TIME and one could probably ride it out further inland AT THIS TIME. IT MAY CHANGE IN STRENGTH. I am thinking it could drop in strength...though it seems to be stablizing. But, it also could tighten up near the coast and grow stronger. Right on the money. For whatever reason this forum can become an echo chamber, and reality can slip a bit. Thanks for providing a good perspective.
