Hurricane Isabel Is Falling Apart/But Could Re-Gain Strength-Live Thread
NHC | 9-16-03 | my favorite headache

Hurricane Isabel is falling apart and fast. Re-Con planes have been flying in the storm since midnight and the entire west quad of the storm has disappeared. The eastern portion of the storm has a wind around 110KTS. There is discussion that re-strengthening will occour within 24 hours though so this still remains a threat.

Pressure has dramatically risen as well. Discussion currently is Isabel making landfall in either Northern South Carolina or Southern North Carolina and a due north move after landfall. Thinking is a landfalling Category 2 minimal 3 storm.

I have noticed just in the last 1 hour that there is some solid convection building around the center.

What does that mean ? Good or Bad ? Bad I suspect

You suspect correctly. Thunderstorms are starting to re-build.

Yes, potentially bad. The storm may be reorganizing, which means it may be getting stronger again. It will be crossing some warmer Gulf Stream waters which also favor strengthening.

Notice what I said about an hour ago..convection was starting to build up. Latest images show just that. The western quad is wrapping around now.

Just like I told my wife: "This thing is going to not even affect us up here in the Norhteast. All the media is hysterical.

The only predictable thing about hurricanes is their unpredictability. I hope that Isabelle becomes a minor storm before she hits. Right now she's a category 3, which is nothing to sneeze at.

She could literally do anything, so caution is warranted.

"Someone is doing a lot of praying..."

For what it's worth, last night I saw Pat Robertson asking all his listners to ask the Lord rebuke this storm.

He has a lot of listeners.

Hurricane Isabel is falling apart and fast.

One can hope and pray that all that will remain of her will be the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

People along the East Coast are stripping stores of emergency supplies.

You would think that by now people here in DC would not have to do anything but toss the birdfeeder in the garage. Between threats of chem-bio terrorism, nuclear holocaust, and last fall's sniper incident, everyone should have enough water, beans, toilette paper, bullets and flashlights to hold us until the end of the world. The Republicanaut-Meowmeow house has had “evacuation packs” - including the kitty-evac-pac - ready to go for a year now. Our main concern is the leaky basement and preparation will amount to tossing the birdfeeder and patio furniture in the shed.

Ok, 'fess up. Is anyone else slightly disappointed? I was really getting into this whole Izzy thing, and she fizzlefarts out before the goal line. Just damn...

Flame away, but weather is exciting when it gets ugly. I was PO'ed because a May 8 tornado missed my place by a quarter mile.
