Hurricane Isabel Is Falling Apart/But Could Re-Gain Strength-Live Thread
NHC | 9-16-03 | my favorite headache

Hurricane Isabel is falling apart and fast. Re-Con planes have been flying in the storm since midnight and the entire west quad of the storm has disappeared. The eastern portion of the storm has a wind around 110KTS. There is discussion that re-strengthening will occour within 24 hours though so this still remains a threat.

Pressure has dramatically risen as well. Discussion currently is Isabel making landfall in either Northern South Carolina or Southern North Carolina and a due north move after landfall. Thinking is a landfalling Category 2 minimal 3 storm.

I'm down in New Carrollton and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this thing keeps on winding down. Not to wish a hurricane on anyone, but I was real glad when the projected track veered from the Chesapeake.

Now that I'm a homeowner I don't like big storms as much as I once did, and natural disasters aren't the great adventures they used to be.

This one's a no-brainer -- if you CAN conference call, do so. Consider -- at best, you will only marginally be able to get back into town on Thursday.

At worst -- you'll be stuck in Cleveland.

Pick up that phone!

I have a business trip tomorrow (Wednesday)and I am going from Baltimore-Washington (my home area) to Detroit. Then I am supposed to fly back at around 10pm on Thursday night into Baltimore. Is this going to happen or should I scrap this trip and do the conference call thing? Anybody want to take a guess?

The return flight will be cancelled. I'd scrap the trip.

I can see where 226MPH wind gusts could be a problem.

Actually, I think what that means is that there are winds in excess of 65 mph (hurricane force) starting at 160 miles from the eye of the storm.

Awww, c'mon now - Cleveland isn't that bad, provided they keep the lights on. :)

If you're there, just head on down to the flats and enjoy the scenery.

226 mph, if the anemometers remain intact.

I know what you mean. I just became a homeowner two months ago and while I still chase hurricane swells up and down the coast for surfing, I never want them to come onto land. Plus I live on a community on the bay. I am pretty sure that I am high enough off the waters, but you never know about mother nature.

Dang, Atlantic Beach shows "guts" of 168 mph for Thursday.

My son and d-i-l are definitely NOT allowed to go to the in-laws for a visit later this week.

That is the way I am leaning, no use getting stuck in Detroit. LOL, I think I would rather go thru a tropical storm than spend an extra day there.

I wonder what they're smoking at Accuweather...146 MPH gusts predicted south of Alexandria, VA where I live! Yeah right!

Looks like a stack of giant condoms will be blowing on shore. NC could get pregnant if things break the wrong way.
