As has been repeated many times over...
Hurricanes of this size and intensity do whatever they want to..(make their own course)
until they peter out over land...

I still remember the Hurricane of 1938 that devastated Mass and RI.
I was very young but I remember the windows blowing out in our apartment. Scary!!
Many lives were lost because forecasting was so poor in those days.

Hi..
found you via ATRW thread. I am a newbie to FR.. and I love weather too.. I have about 100 sites bookmarked. And I love ontario.. Shaw festival; Shakespear festival; biking in Niagara; NOTL; wineries... wow.
Next time I get there lets get together okay? I have relatives in Dunkirk NY that I am long overdue in visiting.. could continue on.
I love Franks's Tomato pie in Toronto. Sunday brunch is the best. Decor is neat.. Maybe we could meet there & get acquainted. (I have references ..... *G* ).. the FReepers I have met so far are nothing short of first class.. in every sense of the word.
Birds of a feather.
NOW MS. Isabel...... prayers to those in the path......be prepared & DO NOT PANIC

WOW - Check this out: OUTLOOK VALID 18/1800Z 36.5N 76.0W
(That's NC/VA Capes) MAX WIND 105 KT...GUSTS 130 KT. But here's the real suprise:
OUTLOOK VALID 19/1800Z 43.5N 78.0W...INLAND (That's Scranton, PA) MAX WIND 35 KT...GUSTS 45 KT.
So in the DC area look for winds probably more than 35 KT sustained - how much more is the question.

Ok, so I am a weather illiterate. I live in Southern WV, south of Charleston WV and near Logan WV and the Kentucky border near there.
What should I be expecting in terms of incliment weather?
Will it be bad for us, do you think?

I've seen everything now. Geraldo did a weather report tonight on Isabel. Stay safe, everyone. This time Florida gets a pass.

Hi Folks,
We are here in St. Leonard, MD. Our home has a view of the Chesapeake Bay and is about 50 feet above the water line. A better situation then some of our 'beach home' neighbors. Hope none of them stick around if this thing gets close. I am currently planning our Evac. right now and also planning for our return home after the storm. I'd like some input from folks who have experience with this sort of event. Thanks.

Perhaps the most stupid woman on the planet called Drudge tonight. She thinks the storm is a conspiracy by Bush to help the economy that he can't get started. She says that it won't hit, but people are spending all kinds of money getting supplies.

I wish I could come on here and say "you're all overreacting", but, such isn't the case. This sucker represents a real threat coming ashore and a continuing threat (due to wind and heavy rain plus tornados) once inland ...

It is a little late for this, but my company manufactures and installs the world's state of the art window film for bomb blast protection. We recently had a team do a job in Baghdad for a news organization.
It is also effective in hurricanes. With 7-mil optically clear film, we are able to sustain a 9-lb spherical ball at 50 mph and not allow penetration of the envelope.

Excuse me for changing the subject matter a bit here, and I'll keep it short...
Let us use this hurricane as a metaphor for our War on Terror.
That being said, prayers and godspeed go out to all of you who see the storm coming and can prepare for it.
