"Arafat and the Clintons and their ilk will live to be 100." Well, thanks for spoiling my nice thought.

Lord be with the Man in Black.

Even in those young pics, he never really looked happy, always troubled. Guess he had lots of demons to deal with, drugs and alcohol and who knows what After reading his autobiography, I was left with the impression that he was tormented by the death of his older brother when they were both young.

John Ritter was pretty young. How old was he?

I think he was 54.
He had a birthday coming up, too; the same as mine: September 17.

WSM online is playing a lot of Johnny's music and talking to many of todays singers and songwriters.
Go here.

I saw JC in NJ in '87 or '88 with my 88 year old grandmother, my mom and my wife. Three generations. He started the show with a little 16mm projector with a B/W film of a train on a screen on the side of the stage. I remember the band started playing the signature "boom chica boom" sound and the audio was real low. I was instantly disappointed at the low volume.
Then Johnny walks out puts his Martin on and starts to sing. WHOAAAAA The whole room filled with his voice. I almost fell over. I remember the smile on everyones face at that moment. I always loved Johnny Cash, the good and all the bad.

I thought he was younger than that. Still pretty young though. I read somewhere a number of years ago that people dispropotionately die fairly close to their birthdays (barring sudden, tragic death that is). Ever since I heard that I have noticed dates on tombstones and also when I hear someone has died and take notice of their birthday. Seems to be true.

Hey! What happened to the first version?
You don't know what I would give to be able to write like that.

The mod was nice enough to pull it for me.
Thank you again. :-)

An old cowpoke went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
A'plowin' through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw
Yi-pi-yi-ay, Yi-pi-yi-o
Ghost riders in the sky

"As a young girl named Sue in the 60s, I was NOT fond of that song! " I can relate! Although I mostly went by Susan or Susie, there are always people who try to shorten your name. To this day I have a fit if somebody tries to call me Sue. That song had a lot to do with my negative feelings about it. Other than that, I loved Johnny's music. The world has lost another great talent.
