It is the belief that Man is an evil creature and that, absent the checks put in place by the elite, will only do evil. Actually I would disagree with that. Liberalism and it's radical extension, Communism, believe that man is inherently good, but merely a victim of his environmental circumstances. They believe that man can be raised to glorious heights of achievement and accomplishment by simply adjusting the economic, educational, or social circumstances of an individual. Of course this is all nonsense and has been proved so many many times.
How many times have you heard a liberal moan that we need more "education" to stop crime, or teen pregnancy? They become incensed at the notion that mankind needs more morals (and hence more God) rather than more education, and they scoff at the idea that making a bad person educated will simply make an evil genius, not an enlightened uberman. That is why they favor gigantic government to invade everyone's lives. They do it because government is the only institution with the raw power capable of shaping an entire society. It is frightening if you think about it.

Dems siding with the terrorists...Yes, the talk of there being no WMD, there being a quagmire, there being not enough soldiers, the talk against our Commander in Chief on and on, even over 16 words, saying he lies. Makes you wonder if the Dems love America. Do they want us to be secure.

We have gone almost nowhere since the Great Society. Name one of LBJ's programs that was ever abolished.

If Tom McClintock succeeds in getting Cruz Bustamante elected Governor of California, all this talk of the Democratic Party's imminent demise will seem foolish.Since he is (still) a Republican, Tom only gets to vote once in the election. Those who vote for him in the face of certain defeat will have to take some responsiblity for Governor Bustamante as well.

Any party that can get dead folk to vote is a party to be reckoned with.
To: MeeknMing
this would carry more weight if the republicans in the senate would show some back bone

Al Gore may have won the popular vote; but, it took the Tv networks tampering in the election to get him there. Absent that, he would have lost the popular vote. So it is a moot point.

I don't think the Dems are on the ropes. Maybe not on the ropes... but a decade of constant losses and no signs of showing any improvement. 2004 is going to make 1994 look like a good year for them.
To: wardaddy
I agree, the dems are not tottering. They just do not have a clear champion at this point. We are a year away and the issue will be single....IRAQ...IRAQ...IRAQ (did we win yet?) ... it is clear that this will be the strategy...Iraq and what it will cost and what we should be doing with that money and where will it come from after the Bush tax cuts.
I can see that easily...I can't see how many will buy it.

I disagree respectfully.
I fear that 2000 and 2002 (due to 9-11) were highwater marks for us. I'm not sure we can ever get more broken glass than in 2000. Everyone I know who is conservative got out and voted for W after 8 years of the Pretender.
And the dependent classes grow and grow and grow. And the Dems spoonfeed them their magic elixir (class/identity resentment and our money) like vintage paregoric.

Well, it appears the economy is healing slowly.
How settled Iraq will be is unknown although W has done a helluva lot in 2 years in that arena, but I'm not sure the eenmy care about that like we do.
The irony is that W has signed some social programs that if Clinton had signed them he would have been lauded by the media as a progressive yet W will get no credit.
I do not think the Dems stalling his judicial nominees is going to hurt the Dems at all regardless of the race or ethnicity of the nominee.

The GOP rolled in 2002 in many elections where 9/11 and national defense were hardly mentioned. It will roll again in 2004.
