Rumsfeld really made him look somewhere between a blatant idiot and outright partisan who is intent on saying what he wants to be said regardless of the truth. the point where he repeatedly asks stupid questions about NYT, concluding with, "we can move on. I'm asking you, is it true?", is a perfect example.

Dan had his a$$ handed to him and isn't bright enough to realize it.

Mr. Secretary, I do not know of any American who doesn't admire what you did in helping secure the battlefield victory that resulted in the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime. I don't know of anybody who doesn't appreciate your service.I nearly fainted when I read that. How did Dirty Dan get those words out of his mouth without his head exploding?

I wish Rumsfeld had asker Rather , " Is it true that you flunked out of Marine Corps Boot cxamp??"

I tried to read the entire interview, I truly did.
I will never understand why Rummy, or any intelligent person would ever even participate in an attempt to give that piece of sheite Rather any semblance of legitimacy. Rather is one of the biggest all time aholes in the media.
On the other hand, I do not have real strong feelings about that freaking retard Rather.

(What are you looking here for, wisdom?)
Rumsfeld: Well there are a lot of people who like to see winners and losers. It sells newspapers, it keeps the ratings for the television people, but the real world is that I deal with him every single day.

Thanks for posting this. Oh, how I wish we had more men like Rumsfeld and less like Rather.

How did Dirty Dan get those words out of his mouth without his head exploding? That is a shocker, coming from Ol' Doom and Gloom Dan. It surprises me, though, that Rummy said he was "hopeful" about the outcome.
I just caught this interview on CBS News. It was heavily edited.

This, IMHO, is a MUST read transcript.
If history has a sliver of fairness, Donald Rumsfeld will be recorded as one holding the right post at the right time.
May God bless you, Mr. Secretary.

Ayup. Vigorously agree with your advice to read the whole thing. Rumsfeld is a real gem. Tells it straight, knows his place.

Rather: "Is it ok if I put panties on my head and hope this turns into a Vietnam-like quagmire?"
Rumsfeld: "Sure, it's a free country and you're free to hate it."

Rumsfeld granted the interview for the purpose of getting positive results into the mainstream media. Blather was just a useful vehicle. Rumsfeld said on Fox today that not much of what the coalition has accomplished was being aired. This is as it was during the Vietnam era. This is one of the few parallels with Vietnam that holds up.
