One Chance to Kill SB60 (Illegal Drivers Licenses), Says McClintock (CA FReeper Alert, PLEASE READ)

Okay, a little voice told me to put up this thread...
Since I heard Sen. McClintock explain this plan twice in two days, during two different radio station interviews, I thought it would be a good idea to synopsis it. (I think is an excellent idea.)

As we have all pretty much figured, the way to do something about the passage of the illegal alien driver's license law, which will be signed any moment by our traitorous, corrupt governor, lies in our "ruby slippers," our wonderful referendum process. According to McClintock, the California Republican Assembly (a group which endorsed him, and the largest of its kind in California), already is buzzing about a plan to challenge the new law "once Davis's pen hits the paper." I have already checked their website and found nothing as of yet; however, McClintock says as soon as he has more information it will be linked on his website. (Let's keep watching for this.)

Here's how it would work. Signatures on petitions would be gathered as with the recall; however, the good news is that he said only a relatively small number would be required. (Off the top of his head, McClintock didn't know the exact amount, but he thought only about 1/4 or 1/5 the amount required for the recall. It should be a lead pipe cinch to get this on this one, IMHO.)

Of course, the signatures need to be collected in the proper, legal manner - I don't have the details to post at this time, but we can get that info readily - and then appropriately forwarded. The good news, according to Sen. McClintock, is that as soon as they are collected and forwarded as required by law, this ridiculous new law MUST BE IMMEDIATELY STAYED UNTIL THE NEXT SCHEDULED ELECTION. That would be MARCH 2004 if we can get the signatures quickly enough. And remember, this idiotic law doesn't go into effect until Jan. 1, 2004. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could beat it to the punch entirely? Does anyone seriously have any doubts we'd knock this thing out in a referendum election?

Another thing, he mentioned that the CA Republican Assembly is not only talking about a referendum, but a possible lawsuit. He didn't give any more detail than that, though...this is all just at the beginning stages, naturally.

Anyway, I thought we could all use a little hope and a positive outlet for our righteous anger. We need to stick together and work positively to show these idiots that this is still OUR STATE, not theirs!

No, referendum only is possible within 90 days of a law being passed.

If it actually is being signed into law by guvner doofus right now then the referendum signatures must be turned in to the Sec State of Cali by Dec.4, 2003.

So put the BS aside and participate regarding the driver licenses for illegals. If you have any input regarding this matter then speak...but if you all you can do is put down MCClintock than you are wasting your valuable time.

Schwartzenegger could help stave off these licenses, if he wanted to, by announcing that the California DMV would make information about all applicants without SSN's available to the INS. Might make some illegals thing twice (well, before deciding the INS would probably deep-6 the info...)

If he makes this a major part of his platform and emphasizes it for the remainder of the campaign, then he should be able to win it all on Oct 7th.

I heard him on KFI talking about this when asked, just a day after the debate, and he went on this issue for a while, as angry as I've ever heard him about an issue. He won't drop it. I was kind of surprised (I'm angry too) but I fulling expected any politician to want to talk about how they won the debate.

That's why Tom is different, he really know and care about the issues, and that is why he is going to win on Oct 7, 2003.

It can and that is the traditional approach.

In fact, depending on the wording, this may be an initiatve. But if the petition is a simple question to approve or reject a single, specified (eg. SB60) piece of legislation, the process ia a referendum.

Yes.

However, initiatives can easily become tied up in the courts like prop. 187 is. If the referendum qualifies SB60 would not go into effect 1/1/04 as planned but would be suspended until the next general election sometime in March '04.

The interesting thing about having the citizens of California repeal the illegal-alien driver's license law by using their referedum process would be to signal that the citizens themselves have taken over governing California via direct democracy rather than relying upon their corrupt, self-absorbed elected leaders.

Will the RNC ever learn not to run away from Proposition #187? It's like they have a bloody deathwish here. It's as essential to conservopopulism in this state as Proposition #13. They've mucked it up for nine years now, with a solid string of goose eggs to show for it.

I heard Davis' pen hit the paper on KFI just now. I haven't been this outraged since the build up to the recall. Just tell me when and where I can download my petitions. My coworkers thought I was motivated on the recall, they haven't seen anything yet.
