If somebody latches a big metal collar to my neck with something attached to it that he says is a bomb I'm going to operate under the assumption that it's a bomb.

Some have said that the bomb was strapped to his chest (appears to have been on the collar, not the chest).

It was attached at the neck, but the actual device was underneath his shirt on his chest. It was like a big exploding medallion.

But you essential point that the media screws everything up is true, as anyone who's ever read a story they've had some personal connection to will tell you.

It's taking a pizza to a deserted area with no address that gets me. This Pizza parlor doesn't know its' own area???? and needed directions?? The Parlor owner said he gave the phone to Wells to get the direction. Why give it to Wells or did the guy ask for Wells??

Let's consider, too, the evil mastermind theory. Why would he pick a victim at random? It could have been some punk teenager who was selected to deliver the pizza. Anyone who went to this much trouble for a bank robbery would like to know that his victim would cooperate and actually do it.

And, in any event, bank robberies are usually a piece of cake. Most robbers don't even disguise themselves and they still get away with it.

Someone who ordered pepperoni and got mushrooms instead?

That would be justifiable homocide.

Dog: I agree with you all the way.

Why aren't they releasing the 9 page letter?? and where are this guy's relatives? The scenario is starting to remind me of Malvo and Mohammad.

I've had to them directions before, and that's with a real street address. I've even had to it with places I'd ordered from before. And I'd imagine the owner gave Wells the phone because he was going to be the guy driving there.

If want to lure somebody to a secluded area where you could attach explosives to them without attracting attention to yourself a pizza boy is a good way to go. And if want to retain some degree of anonimity you'd best select a stranger.

The key to me has always been the letter, not the bomb device. By now, the FBI should know whether or not the victim or his buddy wrote it. Surely they've obtained enough handwriting samples by now.

But the length of that letter also indicates something else. Nobody would give an unwitting victim a 9 page letter to follow in 40 minutes. It would be a few sentences.

Here's what to say to the teller. Here's where to drive with the loot.

9 pages? It probably takes 40 minutes for the average pizza boy to read 9 pages.

Ducking, knowing that pizza delivery boy flames could be delivered shortly...

To me, it looks like something that would be on an automated assembly line.

Has anyone suggested that it may be something out of a LOGGING plant?

Could it be a modified bear trap?

I think the perpetrator has made several necklaces and intends to use them.

A stupid bank robber fakes a gun and is caught the first time. A marginally adept bank robber has a real gun, and gets caught the third time.

A really smart bank robber designs a complex piece of hardware, software, and a complex scheme to make someone else take the risk. They try it many many times, paying back their extraordinary investment in the effort.

We have not heard the last of this creep. I expect at least one per month for several months. He has too much invested to stop after one try.

I can see how it works and it definitely is a holding device similar to what is used to place a sleeve on a pipe (I worked for a water authority at one time). It just looks very ordinary to me with perhaps some modification to bolt the bombing unit to it.

Here in Houston, we had several bands of serial bank robbers for several years. Some worked in 2 man teams, the others worked solo. One of them was apprehended at a gas station after a robbery (cornered actually, he committed suicide). I can't remember how the others went down (I don't know that they all did).

One newsperson reported that he was packing a gun and that the 9 page note was likened to a Manifesto.

Still have heard nothing about any family members so guessing he's an ex-con.

Geez, there aren't that many pieces to this puzzle. What's up!! Let's see the Manifesto!!

Wasn't there some movie with this same concept? A prison where every prisoner wears an explosive collar, along with another. No one knows who his partner is, and they can't be any more than 300 feet away from each other or else both collars explode.
Deadlock
with Rutger Hauer and Mimi Rogers. Played on HBO in the early 1990s.

Yes. Thanks everyone. I found I have it on video. I got about 25 mins into it and realized it wasn't worth watching again.

If somebody latches a big metal collar to my neck with something attached to it that he says is a bomb I'm going to operate under the assumption that it's a bomb.

Me too! However comma my first stop would not be the bank. I'm going directly to the bomb squad. Why didn't this guy go to the police straight away?
