A Matter of Common Sense

Gay Pride Parade Features Catholic Parish/Priest

By Phil Sevilla

For the past 33 years, "gay" pride parades have distinguished San Francisco as the epicenter of the homosexual movement in America. On June 29, I was present to videotape and document with a small group of Catholic and pro-family journalists the parade and events at the Civic Center rotunda. I witnessed frontal nudity, lewd conduct, simulated acts of sodomy, and even profane slogans and caricatures mocking the pope and bishops. I filmed at least one Catholic priest, Father Edward Phelan, and members of his parish in the parade, advertising their affiliation with Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (San Francisco.) A 15-year-old student at Mercy Catholic High School in Burlingame, Marina Gatto, daughter of a lesbian couple, trumpeted her pride in participating in the parade as a grand marshal.

The sisters of perpetual indulgence drove by on a float with the sign, " Weapons of Ass Destruction," with characters dressed as the pope and a cardinal. The character dressed up as the pope was enclosed in a cage. Beside them was a missile named "Cheney" (for Vice-President Cheney) made up as a phallic symbol with a character with a Bush mask riding the missile. One transvestite paraded a sign that said, "Sodomize me. It's legal." Another sign read, "I had sodomy for lunch!" It was curious to see representatives of the Church marching between leather-bound, bare-bottomed advocates of sodomy, sex toy shops (good vibes.com), and black-winged, bare-chested devils in leathers, dancing on a float decorated with hell fire.

I contacted the archdiocese of San Francisco to inquire about the participation of a Catholic parish and pastor in his clerics in a gay pride parade. Although no one returned my call, I corresponded by e-mail with the director of communications, Maurice Healy to ask if the Catholic Church in San Francisco was giving, at least, tacit approval to the San Francisco Gay pride parade by allowing Father Phelan to participate in it.

Mr. Healy responded on July 2 saying the archbishop was out of town but that my message would be forwarded to him when he returned. In part he wrote: "As a matter of common sense, I think it would be wrong for you to assume that all marchers agree with or approve of the raunchy examples you cite." In response, I wrote that the spectacle in San Francisco was not only raunchy but pornographic and the parade conveyed a serious, political message with hundreds of identical signs proclaiming, "Support AB205 Domestic Partner Rights" (a reference to the "gay" marriage bill winding its way through Sacramento) and "We All Deserve Freedom to Marry." These signs were placed all along the parade route.

I asked Healy, "can there be any justification for a Catholic priest and his parish to participate in a blatantly pornographic public display? Would German Catholic bishops and priests have marched with the National Socialists and saluted Hitler in 1939, or Lot and his family cavort with the perverted and decadent people of Sodom?" I received no response.

I don't like the homosexual agenda at all. I refuse to use the word "gay" in discussing this topic, there is nothing gay about it and being a fan of the Victorian/Edwardian Eras, I think it degrades the word "gay." I believe homosexuality is against nature and God. However, "people are going to do what they are going to do" so I think no matter what, there will be people who engage in this behaviour. We can mention the hazzards of this lifestyle and pray and/or try other ways to convince them that it is wrong but in the end if they keep it in their bedrooms and not in public life, well, it's their choice. They should and do have access to jobs and livings like the rest of us do as long as they are qualified (although I draw the line at military service) for the jobs. I've been in such debates before and people have accused me because of my stand on the issue, I'd want all homosexuals to suffer and die. That is complete nonsense although having that behaviour, they open themselves up to the hazzards of SID and AIDS (although heterosexuals who are promiscious can suffer similar fates) along with higher rates od depression and suicide, and so on

These pride parades and the "in your face" stuff is sickening to say the least and if they want to be treated as responsible members of, this is not the way to do in. If I can only say one sentence to then it would be: "Come 'on, guys, grow up, quit acting like spoiled kindergarden kids!"

Here's the link to Most Holy Redeemer Church. It's smack dab in the heart of the Castro district of SF, the most gay part of town.

Thank you for your thoughtful and considerate posting.
You are, of course, correct in your appraisal of my statement.
I placed my tongue in cheek in order to bring
into focus the primary problem of homosexuality in the church heirarchy.
You said it well,"...if you genuinely repent, any sin can be forgiven.
But who can say that you will be able to genuinely repent such a premeditated sin?"
What more premeditation of sin is there than a daily chosen lifestyle of homosexuality for a priest or the promotion of abomination?

The homosexual community co-opted Fr. Judge after his death. There is a whole lot of info on this if you do a google search.

Fr. Judge worked in the crummiest sections of the city and ministered to all people - heterosexual and homosexual. He was also the priest of the NYC firemen who used to invite him to their homes, children's baptisms, etc. The firemen loved him (remember that picture - worth a million words).

Ping!

Maybe Rudy Giuliani's friend (Father Mike?) can take over this parish, that is if he survives the investigation.

overreact much?

Do you call that an overreaction? I would not associate with any denomination that does not follow the Bible. Why doesn't the Catholic church kick those priests who practice homosexuality, and child molesting out?

Cleveland is actually worse than San Fran:

As reported in the Wanderer:

In Cleveland, which has been racked with the most damaging sex abuse scandals outside of Boston and Los Angeles, diocesan officials, including Bishop Anthony Pilla, maintain a stiff upper lip as some homosexual activists in the chancery and parishes continue to transform parishes into gay-friendly communities. Consider:

The Diocese of Cleveland's official web site (www.dioceseofcleveland.com) greets the viewer with a rainbow flag, and gay activists at the diocese's Gay and Lesbian Family Ministry (GLFM) office are way out and way proud.

One member of the GLFM recorded his experience on an area gay web site of his participation in the Cleveland Gay Pride Parade, informing, "The catholic group had a very nice sized contingent. There were a whole ton of other religious groups as well...Oh, did I mention that I am in the same video as a pornstar?!...Our table was almost across from The Grid's table, so we got to watch Matt Rush shirtless signing autographs and posing for pictures most of the afternoon. I felt so uncouth ogling a pornstar and trying to be a respectable representative of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland...

"The Stonewall Democrats had the booth next to The Grid, and they had some mighty fine shirtless guys sitting at their table, too. After we took down our table at the pride festival, seven of us from the Catholic group went out to dinner...We also had the same waiter that we had last time...the cute one with attitude."

The author of that revealing letter is the apparent friend of Brian Halderman, a longtime gay activist of the Diocese of Cleveland who recently announced that he is joining the Society of Mary (Marianists) in Dayton.

In another Internet chat thread sent to FTM by a Cleveland reader, Halderman revealed that while a parishioner at Ascension Church (a church plagued by a number of predator priests), he was a chatechist involved in the sacramental preparation of second graders.

Reader, does all this help you understand what bishops such as Clark and Hubbard and Pilla mean by the "lay-run church.

PING.

The Fr. Phelans of the world might be given pause if this simple policy were enforced:

"Any priest who advocates homosexual practice in any public or private forum shall be suspended from ministry and referred to the appropriate ecclesiastical and civil authorities for investigation into possible sexual offences."

How do we write to the Vatican to tell them what is going on?

They need to do something about this.

Coleus, found this on an old FR thread (which I've pinged you to)

To: NYer

I thought this would be of interest for you. Fr. Richard John Neuhaus in the Oct. 2002 "While We're At It" section of The Public Square of First Things

You know about Father Mychal Judge, the gay priest who was killed giving the last rites to fallen firefighters at the World Trade Center? No you don’t. Fr. Mychal was not homosexual, never mind, as has been endlessly repeated in the media, “openly gay.” He was a faithful celibate priest noted for his heroic service to all in need. The story of his being gay is a total fabrication of homosexual activists and their friends in the press. So says Dennis Lynch, a lawyer who was a close friend and collaborator of Fr. Mychal’s who knew him for ten years and has gone to the trouble of interviewing scores of others who worked with him closely. All of them agree that the legend of “the gay priest” is nothing but propaganda. As you might expect, there are those who persist in claiming that they know Fr. Judge was gay. I don’t know what to believe, but I have talked with Mr. Lynch and find his argument persuasive. For further information, he can be reached at deallaw@aol.com.

Double Standard Alert

How would the liberal press react if this had been done against a Jewish religious icon by a right wing group?

When a left wing group does wrong, it's just fun. If a right wing group does wrong, the press screams like a stuck pig.
