Nevada had the highest net migration rate of foreign-born migrants from other states, gaining 276 people for every 1,000 foreign-born residents in 1995, while Florida had the largest net migration gain of foreign-born migrants from other states: 89,000.

I looked at him and said "Thats right you red neck hick!"

Ouch! LOL! There aren't too many non-Yankees left in Charlotte, it seems (other Yankees think I'm southern 'cause I say y'all and I drawl), so the only comments I've gotten have been overly friendly ones from strangers at gas stations:

"I noticed your Maine plates . . . you just move here? . . . have you found a church home yet?"

and then the guy who tried to offer me a job at some finance company while I was pumping gas. (I kept thinking, "can't he see I'm a Yankee? We don't talk to people pumping gas next to us.")

Why anyone is coming to Washington state I have no idea. We have the worst (or is it second-worst) unemployment in the nation. Boeing just laid off another 1,300 people last week.

Yankees who move to the South have their own personal reasons for doing so. Some are liberals who are attracted to the job opportunities of Research Triangle. Others are conservatives escaping from the bluest of the Blue Zone. It must be noted that many of the Southern GOP Congresscritters grew up in the Midwest. Bob Barr, Sue Myrick (NC-09), and John Linder (GA-07) are prime examples.

In the long run, those numbers are actually a bad sign of things to come in many "red" states. Those 300,000 people who moved from New York to North Carolina in the 1990s brought their political attitudes with them.

I read this article to my hubby, and he said the same thing.

Shows how little he knows about the majority of us yankees moving here. Not surprised. Many natives have many misconceptions about us.

Though many of the ideas we have about the natives invariably are proven true. Such as that the redder the neck, the bigger the belt buckle! LOL!

I couldn't resist.

Beware, they will bring their liberal politics with them. There is a good reason why Palm Beach County and Broward in Florida send Dems like Wexler and Deustch to congress. Those two counties are de facto receptacles of ex-New Yorkers.

Sorry I didn't get back to you before....

I would have the say that nothing beats real experience on cutting-edge projects. You can take all the classes you want, but until you have to actually get something to work in a bureaucratic corporate environment, you're just a rookie.

That's why companies want experienced people.

I think you're right!
It really bothered me when the map from the election had the Bush states in RED... would have been so much better in BLUE!!! The article above only confirms it too!
Especially when I think of the Seattle area! (I work in education too, so you can imagine how communist that is at times).
I hope you're in a "RED" (which should be blue IMO) area! I'm sure not!

Why move? I love Upstate NY. I think the red bits just ought to secede. We can create a new state.

Some potential grounds for secession include:

1. Desire for lower taxes.

2. Creation of an upstate identity.

3. More conservative outlook upstate.

4. More direct attention on problems in a dying region.

5. Less rights restrictions as a result of being affiliated with such a large and prominent city.

(New York City, for example, has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, the rest of the state being close behind.)
