Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

I have a hard time keeping up with current definitions (getting old, I guess), but doesn't moderate today mean what Liberal did 10 years ago and left wing extremeist did 30 or 40 years ago?

If the Swartzenager republicans made a gutsy move and switched their support to the real republican, McClintock he might actually have a chance.

With all due respect, you are a freeper from NJ.

Being from California I know my state pretty well. At this point in time, any Republican who hopes to win in CA. must pull in Independents and some Democrats. I know MANY Democrats who are sick to death of Davis - he really is despised by Democrats. But these folks won't vote for McClintock, I guarantee it. They could very well vote for Arnold however.

Some Republicans seem to prefer a pyrrhic victory. It's a boneheaded approach.

We've exchanged before: I love your conviction. McClintock staying in the race is about ego, not principle. Could you explain how you know the man's heart and motives? I'd love to hear.

You're right, McNaderlock is an egomaniac.

Too bad he needs to GET ELECTED to put conservative ideas in place.

Wouldn't want to spoil your fantasy, however,go on and vote for Bustamante, I mean McNader.

"Why support I back a guy who surrounds himself with Wilson types, who gave California a $7 billion tax hike, the largest of any state in American history? "

So Arnold stays in, your vote goes to McClintock, and you elect Bustamente.

I guess that's good business for a talk show host...

A series of questions for McClintock supporters:

Is California a largely liberal state?

Is McClintock conservative?

Given 1 and 2, how can he possibly win?

Why is not, in this case, half a loaf better than none?

Thank you for impugning my motives. I support McClintock on principle and know him from interviewing him. Arnold couldn't tie his policy shoes.

He won't get out, this is about ego, not principle.

Yep. I never had much use for Issa, but he got out on day one. Finally Simon got religion too. If McClintock stays in he may get an ego boost, but he'll curry no favor with the WH I'd wager.

Why doesn't McClintock get out of the way now, and run against Boxer in '06? Then maybe we could get a two-fer. A Governor and a Senator.

Guess what McNader is really going to do for CA.?

NOTHING, because he will not be elected.

However, he will make a great Lt. Governor.

Hey!! I am not voting for Bustamonte! I am voting for a positive change. I am voting for a man who understands economics and business. A man who has surrounded himself with some of the best minds in the world. I am voting for a man who wants to reach out to all Californians, who has hope for a better California. A man who made his money on his own, not on the public dole.

I will never vote for a life long politician and spoiler.

With all due respect to you, New Jersey is still suffering the ill effects former former Governor Whitman (RINO) had on the state. Not to mention the backstabbing rinos we have in the statehouse. They are in office in the republican name only. Don't we really elect these people so they will represent our ideals and further our agenda?

Although I believe the GOP is most capable of extracting California from the pit it is currently in, I'm afraid that the austerity measures necessary to do so will keep the GOP from ever gaining elected office in this state again. The only thing in Davis' favor is that the economic cycle is not in his favor, but his panic during the energy crisis and his liberal socialist policies have exacerbated an already tenuous situation.

My solution to this debacle is elimination of the state income tax and initiation of a consumption tax (like the European Value Added Tax, VAT) as well as registration of all illegal immigrant workers so that the cash compensation loophole can be closed and that our emergency rooms aren't used as clinics.

Control of immigration and attracting business are keys to recovery. No DemocRAT policy will ever do anything to address those two issues.

"Living in New Jersey, I can tell you that Rinos in elected office have no power."

Do you seriously think that McClintock in "power" with a Dem Legislature will be able to accomplish anything ?

He says he will take it to the people if the Legislature does not act... Hey Tom ! Why didn't you "take it to the people" last year ?

Arnold couldn't tie his policy shoes.

Does Arnold even have a shoe policy? I guess he'll have to check with his team and find out what he thinks about it.

When it is impossible for you to win, yet you insist on playing spoiler, that's an ego trip. Of course I don't believe the LA Times poll anyway. :)
