Geoghan killed in prison (Boston Herald)
Breaking news/by Eric Convey
Saturday, August 23, 2003

Former priest John Geoghan, a notorious pedophile whose case sparked the clergy molestation scandal of the past 18 months, died this afternoon after being attacked at the state prison in Shirley.

``The perpetrator has been isolated,'' said Kelly Nantell, a spokeswoman for the state Deparment of Corrections.

``Our investigation continues,'' she said.

The matter has been referred to the Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.

Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence at MCI Shirley for allegedly groping a boy at a Waltham swimming pool.

More than 140 people have claimed they were abused by Geoghan, claiming they were fondled or raped at locations ranging from church rectories to their own homes.

Geoghan would become one the most notorious pedophiles in the country - not only for the extent of his rampage against children but because relevations about his case led to the unraveling of secrecy within the Archdiocese of Boston.

Bernard Cardinal Law's cordial letters to Geoghan, mixing discipline with praise for his priestly service, that pushed many victims from disbelief to outrage.

I disagree. The honest discussion here is informative, if not always beautiful. If everyone agreed all the time, how could there be discussion and growth?

I don't confuse disagreement with ugliness, and I'd rather that some here not be so honest about their basest impluses and hatreds. That's all.

and if your wife is driving while tired in minnesota...

and convicted of falling asleep at the wheel, accidently kills someone... and as you know it IS a felony...

you want her raped and murdered by a prison guard, or just have her head cut off....

30 percent of america has had tangles with the criminal justice system that has been put in their permanent record... 1/30 folks in most major cities have felony warrants for their arrest, some for parking tickets they did not even know about...

I Los Angeles alone that would be about 750 thousand people, executed, instead of incarcerated...

You hate felons?
Some day, you or some "innocent" person you may know, will be found to be one... we shall see your reaction then...

until then I will assume you are just shooting your mouth off about that which you have not considered...

From what I understand, child molesters are the bottom of the prison food chain (somewhere right around child killers/abusers and corrupt cops). This could be explained that many folks in prison conclude that they ended up the way they did because of traumas suffered by them during childhood...call it Instant Karma.
As a disillusioned Catholic, I believe he got what he deserved, just like Dahmer.

I didn't know my dad was in K of C until after he died. I found all kinds of stuff that I didn't know about. He dropped out after he and my mom got married. He ended up taking care of me, my mom, and his mom after my birth. He was 50, grandma was 90, and mom was 40. They got married late in life, and he never rejoined. Too bad, it would have been good for him to get out once in a while...

These guys obviously don't watch Law and Order. Seemed like in half the episodes where a transexual, pedophile, child molester, etc. got sent to prison, they got beaten to a bloody pulp or killed.

I guess the Boston

PEDERAST

(not pedophile)

GAY-GUN

didn't watch Law and Order either.

I have not read all of the posts and am not attempting to judge, but is rape, even of a child, absent murder, a capital crime in any state?

YOU CITE one cured pedophile!

That's the whole problem with modern society's approach --- (church and state), they cannot be cured, they cannot be redeemed. These are men who lust after little boys, just like normal men cannot be cured of preferring women. Their whole sex drive is completely twisted and evil.

We cannot know if John Geoghan repented or not.

I think Jesus said it best...I paraphrase here...

Better to place a millstone around one's neck than to harm one of my children!

Got a quibble with Jesus?

>>It wasn't very healthy, however I nailed Fr. O'Byrne one day by asking him if Adam and Eve had belly buttons....my bad???? <<

Of course they had bellybuttons! That's the place where God pokes you in the tummy and says, "You're Done!"

or at least that's what I tell my 3 year old.

God can be a merciful God, or a terrible God. I think that God works through others on earth so that we can see and learn. Just my opinion...

Better a millstone tied around one's neck, than to hurt a child. Is that how that goes?

Yes --- and he might have tried some of his predator sexual stuff on them figuring prison made them helpless against him -- no escape. He may have been stalking victims in prison just as he was in the churches ---- only this time he had to deal with adults who could resist him.

My cousin and I are in the middle of doing a geneology thing and it is amazing the stuff we have learned! Grandma gave me all the family pics, though, and that is a bit of a bone of contention since I won't surrender them to her and she can't get her self together with her computer to print them out.

Ah, family! ; )

See #228.

I was not the one who made the assertion that pot users are peaceful and funny. If one is attempting to ascertain whether this is a personal opinion or actual statistical data, then it is QUITE appropriate to ask for the url link to this data.

If the link is not provided, then one must conclude that this is personal opinion only....and thus, subject to personal bias and individual agenda.

One can opt to make all the personal opinion posts they choose to. But one should then be prepared to acknowledge that they are speaking ONLY from their individual viewpoint and making assertions....rather than relating facts.

As for Geoghan, I think he got what he deserved even though it may be un-Christian.

I hope he begged for forgiveness before he went, because now he's seeing his true Judge.

Lastly, I hope that this brings closure to the victims and helps heal the wounds that this monster caused.

Watch the left try to drum up sympathy for pedophiles now . . . "Oh, that poor man didn't deserve to die. For that crime? Pedophiles should NEVER be kept in the general prison population, yada, yada, etc."
