MOSCOW (Reuters) -- Gross domestic product rose 6.9 percent in the first seven months of the year compared with the same period a year ago, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry said Thursday.
An official also said investment rose 11.9 percent in the first seven months of the year and that the ministry was standing by its official forecast of 5.9 percent GDP growth for the whole year.
The economy powered ahead 7.2 percent in the first half of the year thanks to high global crude and commodities prices, mounting investment and robust domestic demand.
But the ministry has warned growth is likely to slow in the second half of 2003 after the economy powered ahead in the first six months. This followed sluggish growth in the first half of 2002. The economy expanded 4 percent between January and the end of July 2002.

Didn't need to...everyone knows that the only place that could see growth like that would be China or Russia :-)

It's possible for China and russia to show 7% growth because, and no insults intended, they are at a lower level of econonomic development. The US is at a higher level. For instance, if a company earns 100K profit one year, it can have a 100% growth the next to 200K (making 100K more profit) much more easily than growing its profit at 100% the next year to 400K (making 200K more profit)

I'm expecting Howard Dean to pull a "missile gap" out of his pocket. "The Russian economy is growing at 6.9% and all George W Bush can muster is 4% growth. That is indequate! We have a Growth Gap and I'm the only man who can fix it! My plan includes much, much higher taxes for all corporations! This will jumpstart our industries, because I plan to use the money to provide social services for illegal immigrants!"

Wow! Nice work on the neo-NEP! When will the door be slammed shut and war preparations begun? Or have they already started?

Bump that flat tax! And it will be funnier yet once the Russians sell off enough land that the Russian government owns less than the U.S. government.
Next year I envision this headline: "Putin announces NRST, tells U.S. 'We will bury you.'"

Why bury? Then loose all value, better to buy up.

Exactly right Belmont Mark!
The russoconservative fella must not understand the NEP I'll bet.
These numbers are largely due to military equipment export to the enemies of the U.S.

Enemies of US like say S.Korea, Malaysia, India? As for growth, you not know what you talk about. Go read figures, this little to do with military sales lot to do with major reworking of economy (and oil prices). Industry grow because cheapest place for Europe to invest, lowest taxes and least government control...but for Cold War Bugbears until every Russian kills self, you not satisfied...Christ, your type remind me of Islam Arabs and attitude toward Jews....birds of feather.
To: RussianConservative
I've not leveled any opinions of you or made any statements about what should be done. To suggest I (we) remind you of Islamic Arabs (another generalization) is, at best, inappropriate.
Did you say least government control? That strikes me as funny.
Are you familiar with the NEP and its purposes?

Yes I know what NEP WAS. To believe that NEP exist, to believe in shadow parliment show me that your belief not based on reality. You make accusation but then say one must deal with accusation not accuser...sure if sane accusation. But accusation not sane or reality and while dealing with accusation other accusations on way. You make statement, show no REAL proof of statements, only alligation, and then demand to be disproved. Sure, and I say then America run by cartel of Illuminati who control banking and media and other sources and all major religious organizations and want to turn every other nation to slaves. Now disprove me.
To: Noswad
To suggest I (we) remind you of Islamic Arabs (another generalization) is, at best, inappropriate. Why inappropriate? Very to point. Arabs see nothing but evil in Isreal and all ills blamed on Zionist conspiracy and Zionist secret shadow plans, etc. This is not different then your attitude toward Russia. You see secret conspiracies and blame all disbalance in world, even disbalance America create, on Russia.
