Supporters of Chief Justice Roy Moore have been handcuffed and led away from the Ten Commandments monument in Montgomery. They had refused to leave the monument after Moore lost a last-ditch appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court this afternoon. The federal judge who ordered the monument's removal is now expected to consider a contempt of court finding on Friday. That could set the stage for the monument to be removed ... or fines imposed on the state.
Scores of Moore supporters sang and prayed outside the building as about 20 inside were removed from the rotunda. It wasn't immediately known if they would be charged by Montgomery police.
Associate Justice Douglas Johnston issued a statement saying he had proposed moving the monument to a private area of the judicial building after six o'clock this evening. He said that would avert any fines while Moore pursues appeals that could take months. But he said fewer than five of the justices concurred, and his proposal was not approved.
The associate justices have indicated they may take action later.

...Ten Commandments Tablets as inscribed on the Oak Door of the U.S. Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C...That's DC, Southack. They have special rules there, which don't apply to uppity Christian rednecks in Alabama. Okay?

Why are these people being arrested? Are they disturbing the peace? Or is it being said that they are?

They voted tonight on whether to remove the monument to an office within the building. They did not vote to overrule Judge Moore. Yet. The judge has one heck of a good argument for his case. The Alabama Constitution is extremely Biblical. It's in the Bible belt area. I'll bet everyone is hoping he just goes away peacefully so they don't have to deal with this one. The judge is right. If they silence him by ruling against him, it would be like crusifying an innocent man. It will forever be on their conscience. They have to choose - the right thing to do, or political cover.

Oh please...If he wanted to get attention there are plenty of other ways he could have done it. It's been so long since this country saw someone stand up for what is right that most people don't even recognize what it looks like anymore.

Oddly enough, that's what people said the last time there was a constitutional in Montgomery, Alabama.
A "constitutional" what?

Roy Moore is a liar
He is setting up a straw man, saying this about eliminating God from public places.
Consider this quote from the District Court opinion:
"But, in announcing this holding today, the court believes it is important to clarify at the outset that the court does not hold that it is improper in all instances to display the Ten Commandments in government buildings; nor does the court hold that the Ten Commandments are not important, if not one of the most important, sources of American law. Rather the court's limited holding, as will be explained below in more detail, is that the Chief Justice's actions and intentions in this case crossed the Establishment Clause line between the permissible and the impermissible."
Roy Moore didn't cross the line with the mentioning of God, nor the acknowledgement of the Ten Commandments, in fact, the ruling handed down mentioned the influence of it. He is setting up a straw man, claiming that the courts want to outlaw all references to God, he knows that is a lie, he picked this fight knowing he would lose in the courts, and he stands to benefit greatly from the notoriety.
This is what crosses the line as far as the establishment clause, the inscription on the monument:
"The monument serves to remind the appellate courts and judges of the circuit and district courts of this state and members of the bar who appear before them as well as the people of Alabama who visit the Alabama Judicial Building of the truth stated in the preamble of the Alabama Constitution that in order to establish justice we must invoke ' the favor and guidance of Almighty God,' "`-- Roy Moore
No wiggle room there, "we must" is a comandment to worship his God. Whether you or I agree with that is immaterial, it is inappropriate for a state supreme court to make that statement.
What if there was a sign that said "we must invoke the favor of allah"? Id raise holy hell about that, and to be fair, it is the same thing to non Christians.
Roy Moore is a smart man, he knows what is in the decision. He picked this fight with the aclu types, and he knew he'd probably lose it. But he stands to gain with the newfound notoriety. He is despicable, he is using God's word for political gain.
Look at the decisions, and see if he is telling the truth. I'd say he isn't. Some warrior for God

It was a rhetorical comment, concerned!
I couldn't agree more with you that we need conservatives on the benches, men and women who will not legislate from the bench.

Sue Jim Rob.
Actually the find in forum will give you a pretty good idea of where a person stands on things.
Are you glad the SCOTUS struck down the TX sodomy law? Next it will be legal for the sodomists to do it to our little sons and grandsons.

are there any Judge Moore threads you've missed trolling? Plenty. They're all boring. Everybody says the same thing they always say, and nobody changes his/her mind.
But, it's a slow night on FR.
