Hillary implies Bush responsible for power outage
CNN Larry King Live | 08/14/2003 | Cousin Eddie

Posted on 08/14/2003 6:38:58 PM PDT by Cousin Eddie

King is interviewing that expert in electricity managemnet, Gray Davis, and Hillary Clinton (by phone). She basically said that this country needs to put a priority on upgrading the power distribution backbone and the Bush administration had un-done all of the good work that had gone on in the Clinton administration under Bill Richardson. Unbelievable...blaming Bush for this crisis. She has no shame.

Ah, she's just in a snit because her vibrator was recharging when the blackout hit.

,,, I bet it doubles as a cellphone! She can always charge it up from the cigarette lighter in her SUV.

I am also highly suspicious. Note also how Chretien immediately said it was a lightning strike (like that was supposed to be the over story until whoops...no lightning) AND how Drudge immediately had that "where is the President" headline griping about the President going to the fundraiser.

And the blackout happened so conveniently, while the President was at a dreaded fundraiser. And then, of course, Hillary, Davis, and Richardson all just happen to be available, whereas apparently no one could call the ACTUAL Secretary of Energy, the Governor of New York (where the most outage was) or even Senator Schumer (the senior senator from New York)!

Quite a coincidence! I think they should find out if Chretien sent people, along with the DNC, to down a power station in upstate New York.

Someone on Fox just said people have know that certain parts of the power grid have needed upgrading for many years. So did Bush and his buds tear out all the "new construction" during the Clinton years?

I don't think she helps her cause with mess like this. Contrast her reaction to Pataki. Real leadership vs the wannabe kind.

What’s more contemptible is Larry King having (D) Bill Richardson,(D) Gray Davis,(D) Hillary Clinton on. Not one person from the current Energy Department bringing America up to speed on what was going on.

Wasn’t this idiot Richardson the one in charge when Las Alamos was almost burnt to the ground? Call me cynical but I sense a political smear campaign that’s about to be unleashed on the Bush administration.

" I listened in disbelief to her tirade on MSNBC also"

I got a phone call describing how hysterical Hillary was, blaming George Bush and Ken Lay for the outage. I guess tomorrow Congressional Democrats will call for an investigation demanding that GW account for his whereabouts at the moment the plant went down.

So. That explains why she had her driver mow down that guard.

I think it was actually my fault. I got a double precision overflow in the matrix inverter; this triggered a vector interrupt which may have escaped down the power line; I don't know where it finally dissipated.

Hm, isn't this interesting -- seems Bill Richardson was warning our grid was out of date before the 2000 election, after eight years of Clinton rule. Kinda contradicts Hillary's claim that the 'toons did great work on the grid that President Bush undid, doesn't it? Just another mess they've left for the Bush administration (and all of us) to clean up.

Energy chief: Electricity crisis looms Richardson: U.S. should encourage modernization

By Kevin Flynn, Denver Rocky Mountain News Staff Writer

There will be a crisis in the nation's electrical supply system within five years if the federal government doesn't encourage the private sector to modernize, U.S. Energy Secretary Bill Richardson said in Denver Tuesday.

Stumping for Vice President Al Gore's presidential campaign, Richardson told a group of 29 senior citizens at Windsor Gardens that Gore advocates deregulation of the electrical industry to promote start-up companies, alternative suppliers and investment in new technology.

Richardson, a former New Mexico congressman, said the electricity grid is out of date, while the country keeps gobbling up more wattage.

"A lot of utilities and power companies have not been investing in modernizing their facilities," he said.

He said Gore would support development of alternative energy sources. The Energy Department oversees the National Renewable Energy Lab, which researches such sources of energy as solar- and wind-generated electricity.

Gore supports tax credits for home upgrades to solar power and research into more efficient automobile engines, Richardson said.

"In the next two years, energy is going to be one of the top issues in the country," he told the group. Fueled by a predicted shortage of home heating oil in the Northeast, Richardson backed President Clinton's release of 30 million barrels of crude oil from the nation's strategic reserves to try to stabilize the price.

Richardson said that the price of oil still hasn't stabilized, although it has dropped somewhat.

"What you've seen in the last week is a gradual reduction in crude oil prices," he said. The price is around $31 a barrel, down from $37, and Richardson said the Clinton Administration would like to see it fall to between $20 and $25.

Gore's opponent, Republican George W. Bush, has criticized Clinton's move as politically motivated. Bush's platform calls for more domestic production and more cooperation with Mexico and Canada to develop North American petroleum resources.

Bush advocates creation of a reserve of petroleum specifically for the Northeast, where there is a greater reliance on heating oil than in other regions, instead of pulling crude from the nation's overall reserves.

To be fair, Richardson's dept (Energy) did warn against the fire. Babbitt's dept (Interior) actually set the fires, to restore an ancient meadow. (It was so windy, they needed two boxes of matches to get the fire lit.)

Everyone knows that the power outage was caused by godzillary driving her broom into those power lines in Chappaqua.

Off again in search of that magic vibrating flute, I reckon.
