Prayer Request for A Tiny Baby (Update in post #12850)
Myself | 8-11-03 | Brad's Gramma

Posted on 08/11/2003 12:57:30 PM PDT by Brad’s Gramma

If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. He’s the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.

Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2” long.

He’s a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that he’s starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.

I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious…and this is her reply…” A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.”

On a personal note, I’ve read the emails daily from my friend. I’ve known her for years, I’ve heard her talking about her family for years…but I’ve got to tell you that I’m SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.

Father God, we lift up Logan’s little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until he’s grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Fellow Freepers…….I bring you Logan!!!

And please give Miss V a hug when she will allow it.

No hugs for grandpa today. Grandma got several. Uncle M got a kiss blown to him when he opened the top on her milk cup for her. Grandpa just got stared at.

But then she cried when we all had to leave. 'course she was getting tired, even after a 3 hour nap. She was pretty good at the restaurant, until she got full and wanted to play. Aunt B took her outside and then when Daddy was finished eating, switched off to him and went home to Mommy, who didn't feel like going out after having a flu shot earlier in the day. By the time we got her meal to her, she was feeling much better and at the first half of it, which is a about all she ever eats at s sitting, but she'll have more than the usual three sittings per day.

Miss V had her flu shot too, she didn't even cry, although she did chew the nurse and everyone in earshot out, we think, since no one could really understand what she was saying, but it reportedly sounded quite angry. :)

Cousin A accidentally hit her in the mouth with Wi controller, but grandma soothed that hurt in short order. Then she was hacked because we made A turn off the game, which Miss V loves to watch, particularly tennis, for not paying attention to where Miss V was, and that was right after being warned to do so.

Had to chuckle at the parts about Miss V giving everyone heck! I know 2 little ones that have made the saying “the tail wags the dog” true....... Miss V and Logan!!

Sounds like your little one is very selective. A woman with her own mind!! I love it!!

Keep us posted on the babies.....and you know that we’re all praying for them.

Keep us posted on the babies.

Babies still doing fine this week. Their mother is almost as big around as she was when Miss V was fully baked. They think about 7 pounds of babies. However the doctor now thinks November 14th will very likely be the day, but final determination on that won't be made until about the 12th. Doc is going to let them stay inside as long as they and Mom are doing OK, well at least until the 23rd.

Miss V stayed with Grandma and Grandpa last night. She was really good most of the time, but she was hard to get to sleep. She kicks in the night, and I guess I must be warmer than Grandma, cause she kept snuggling up to me, and then kicking me in the back. :)

Still no hugs for Grandpa, but she did have "death grip" on my finger in the sandwich shop where we had lunch. She had no problem with me putting her into my car either. She was good and the ride back down to Georgetown, where her Daddy met us for the transfer. I thought she'd gone to sleep, but then she was awake and starting to fuss. When I talked to her, she calmed down, and soon started singing. She's "into" "The Bear went over the Mountain" right now. She can also count to ten, most of the time.

Daddy got her out of the car, and then I put the seat into his car. But when I went to pick her up, for a little hug and to put her into the seat, she started screaming. So I handed her right to Daddy, and she stopped right away. I'm sure she thought she wasn't going to get to go home with him. :)

Grandpa gets no respect. But a few nice smiles can make up for a lot, even the absence of hugs and kisses when everyone else is getting them. :(.

Had to laugh EL. That little one has your number and is playing you like a fiddle!!!

Great news about the babies. I’m sure your daughter is getting real uncomfortable, but wants her babies safe. Please tell her that Logan’s family is praying for all of them.

Miss V and Logan must be kin. When he “spends” with me, it’s a long night. He sleep soundly, kicking me every 15 minutes until I finally give up and get up after about 4 hours of non-sleep. I think it’s because he’s used to a big bed all by himself and likes sleeping sideways! Anyway, he heck to sleep with!!

Time is drawing near for the 2 precious ones to make their appearance into the world. Please keep us posted... and keep trying for that hug and a kiss with Miss V.

Please keep us posted.

Will do. New report today, and with a follow up tomorrow.

They did a full check at the "high risk" specialist's. Estimated weights: 3 lb 3 oz for Katharine, and 4 lb 1 oz for Elizabeth. (I know, even Katherine is over twice the size of our Texas Termite when he was born). Growth was good, amniotic fluid looks good (there's enough around each), movement is good.

Little Katharine's lungs aren't quite up to snuff, so doc ordered another round of steroid shots (two shots, 1 day apart, because my daughter is not a large woman.) The last round doesn't seem to have affected her at all, and may not have done much for Elizabeth either, since her lungs look just right for 33 weeks, which is where they are today. They'll reevaluate K's lungs and "breathing" tomorrow. While she was first to be observed practice breathing, she hasn't been seen to do it on the last couple of checks. Daughter and I think she's just being her usual uncooperative self. She's always turned the wrong way to see what they want to see, or sleeping when they want to see her moving, etc.

Daughter is taking it all well, and so is Grandpa. :)

Daughter called while I was in Physical therapy. (knee), and when I finally called her back, I woke her up, sort of. She claimed she wasn't really asleep, just zoning out. It's nice that she thinks to call her Dad as well as her Mom.

I'll be going down to Austin to see them all next Saturday. Son-in-law and I will watch the Nebraska-Texas game (on TV), and then he'll cook a diner for us. Don't know if younger daughter and her hubby will come or not. (Four years ago we had great seats about 6 rows up on the 25-30 yard line. It was my birthday present. Texas won, and they'll do it again this year. Nebraska may have won it's last game this season. They stinketh mightily. AD has been fired, and not *just* because of the football program. Coach/US Representative Tom Osborne, PhD, has been named interim AD. He'll kick a$$ and take names, quietly and courteously.

If there is any new info tomorrow, "I'll be back". :)

Sounds all good to me. Even the little un-cooperative one :) She may be taking lessons from Miss V !!! LOL

We’ll be here and in the meantime, we’ll be praying as usual.

Minor update tonight, but a good one.

Because Miss Uncooperative was being herself yesterday, she had to go back today. And she finally slipped up and cooperated. She passed the practice breathing "test" with flying colors, and the movement "test" as well. Her lungs have not had time to respond to the steroids, so there'll be an exam on Thursday and Monday to check 'em out.

As a bonus, they were training a sonogram tech on a new procedure, to test for fat, so she got that one for free. :) It's known to say the baby doesn't have enough when they do, but not to say they have enough, when they don't. She had enough to help keep her warm after she and her sissy make their grand entrances.. or is that exits. Whatever.

Their Mommy was very upbeat when she called Gramps today. (Of course some of that may have been a side effect of the steroid shot, which she got another of today. :) ).

Hoooray!! Miss “U” did it :) She is an independent little missy!! LOL

I’d say it’s great news all around. Thanks for keeping us updated. It’s getting very close to the grand entrance :)

Another good report yesterday. Well mostly. Miss K's lungs are starting to respond to the steroids. Everything else as before. However mother's blood pressure was up, not much but enough to be of some concern. They feel she will be OK for the 3- weeks until the 14th, but maybe not much beyond.

That's OK, as it will be over 36 weeks. In any event we'll know more Monday and, I think Thursday next week. (I sort of wonder if the blood pressure isn't related to he steroid shoots.)

Another bad thing about that is that I will be in Orlando the whole week, so if that is the week, I'll miss their coming out. If they stay more than three days, I'll be back before they get out of the hospital though. Still, I'd much rather be there. I have to tell my daughter about that tomorrow, in person. I asked my wife if she would pay my medical co-pay for the emergency room or doctor visit. :) Not that I think it will be that bad, at almost 33 she's finally maturing and calming down... a little... I hope. :)

There is another little one who needs everyone's thoughts and prayers. I don't even know his name. He's the half-brother of a co-worker's grandson. (IOW, the grandson's father had another child but not with my coworker's daughter). Strangely enough the two mother's know each other and get along well.

In any event the little trooper (Dad is a soldier) was a few ounces over 2 lbs when born at 29 weeks gestation earlier this week.

I saw a picture, and he wasn't nearly as surrounded by tubes as the Termite was in the picture of him when he was born.

The little guy does have the pressure breathing tube, and the oxygen sensor on his little foot, which is nice and red. His color looks good too, and for such a small little guy, he's not all that skinny.

Oh goodness! Another little “bittie”!! Well we sure have room for prayers for those who need it and will add this baby to our list. It’s OK about not knowing his name, God does.

So glad little Katherine’s lungs are better. That’s a BIG plus. They have done amazingly well staying where they belong for this long. Everyday makes it better than the day before.

I know you hate the thought that you might not be there when they’re born.....maybe they will sense that Grandpa needs to be there for their big debut!! Your statement about the ER fee and your daughter lends me to believe that Miss V gets her attitude from Mommy. That’s not bad at all. We need more women who speak their mind and take a stand. You done good :)

I’ll be offline from the 31st thru the 3rd. I’m taking care of the Termite while Mom and Dad jet to LV for a couple of days. First time they’ve been a long way away from him ever. But no fear...I know that child well!! LOL And he’s excited about his “spend time with Nanee...and that’s with an accent on the ee !! 9pm on the 3rd will bring a relief to me and I know he will glad to see them. He’s hooked to the hip of his Mommy. They have a beautiful mutual love affair. As God planned......

Thanks for the update. If you need bandaids...let me know.

Hugs, prayers and love to all....

Nana

Today's report:

Daughter called just before 11 AM. She said that little Kathrine's bloodflow is puny again. Daughter's blood pressure is still high, for her, but down from what is was on Thursday, leading credence to the theory that the steroids were the cause of the elevated BP.

Good news is that Catherine's lungs are looking pretty good. Two weeks of development in the last week. Still not quite where they should be at 34 weeks, but improving.

(I really don't know how they intend to spell her name, and looking up Katherine Queen of England, her namesake, doesn't help as both spellings are shown for the various Catherines/Katherines :) Need to remember to ask about that.)

Elizabeth still looking good. Hope her sister's blood flow problems don't result in a early birth. They'll reevaluate next Monday.

Grandma Gata said that she told our daughter that the girls just want Grandpa to be there when they make their appearance. I'll need to talk to them about that this weekend. If they want Grandpa there, they should wait until Monday the 19th, when I'll be able to take some "comp time" from the trip, and put it together with some vacation time, and thus have more time to spend with their big sister, Miss Victoria (and then with them).

“She said that little Kathrine’s bloodflow is puny again. Daughter’s blood pressure is still high, for her, but down from what is was on Thursday”

Well it looks like we need to increase the prayers! I don’t know a thing about twins, but I’m sure it’s double everything on your daughter’s system.

I do hope that the babies wait to make their debut until you can be there... but if they come while you’re gone, then Miss V and Grandma Gata with handle things until you can return. With Miss V’s attitude, she’s definately in charge :)

All kidding aside, I have also included M0sby and BG in this post. They can ping Logan’s list for an extra prayer for your family.

We pray for safety and well being for all EG.

We pray for safety and well being for all EG It's much appreciated by our family.

You might slip in a word for younger daughter to "catch", she's trying to get pregnant, but it's been four months and she's getting frustrated. Of course for the women in my wife's family, save her mother and one sister, four months is nothing. Those two had five each. :).
