New turn in Dr. Laura's spiritual journey: Convert to Judaism says she's no longer following rituals

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, one of the nation's most popular radio talk-show hosts and the most successful on-air counselor, is no longer practicing the rituals of Judaism a religion she converted to a decade ago in her 40s.
''Almost 10 years ago, I talked on the air about becoming a convert to Judaism,'' she told her listeners last week. ''I was open on the air at that time about that evolution. Well, I would say within the last year I have had a de-evolution.''
Where is she now spiritually?
''Nowhere exactly,'' she chuckled. ''Suspended animation. I still see myself as a Jew. But the spiritual journey in that direction as hard-core as I was at it just didn't fulfill something in me that I needed.''
Schlessinger grew up in New York, the child of a Jewish father and a Catholic mother. She was a life-long atheist, who, in her 40s, began exploring and practicing Judaism.
''By and large, the faxes from Christians have been very loving, very supportive,'' she said. From my own religion, I have either gotten nothing, which is 99 percent of it, or two of the nastiest letters I have gotten in a long time. I guess that's my point, I don't get much back. Not much warmth coming back.

She said once that the hardest Commandment for her to keep was the First. And I knew exactly what she meant. It is hard to stay really connected to God, and place him above all, minute to minute, day by day. But I love the wording of the First Commandment, it fills my heart when I recite it.
Another thing she said once that I flashed to immediately reading this piece, was that if she knew God could forgive murderers (I think she meant the likes of Hitler, etc., though) she would renounce Judaism. And while I understood what she meant her tone of voice seemed to seek a confrontation with God. So the news that she's reverting to agnosticism doesn't surprise me.

She'll eventually come full circle and become Catholic,
like her Mother, and thereby make peace with her past.
Let's just pray she makes peace with her heavenly father and becomes a Christian. My prayer for all who do not know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

...just checked out Dr Laura's infamous naked pics. What, they're still up? They used to be on Bartcop......want to see something deeply frightening? Find the pix of Hillary on Bartcop (no sauce there, just pure idol-worship) and read the smarmy, sycophantic captions. [TWO-BAG BARF ALERT]

In any of Schlessinger's writing has she described her transformation from non-believer to believer? That would interest me.

There is nothing in the article to indicate she is becoming an agnostic. Just the oposite she says it is stupid to deny God. Anyone who knows Jesus understands where she is and the longing she has for a personnel relationship with the God of the Universe. The Lord is knocking. Will she answer?

"...Nowhere in the Bible have I read anything about getting your needs met..."
Meeting Jesus is all about getting your needs met. I know what you are saying, that it should be more than about a selfish craving....but isn't that exactly how the Lord deals with us...on the level of our need?

I am guessing her conservative political stands have gotten her abuse from liberal Jewish letter writers. It probably is not easy to be a politically conservative Jew unless you are Hasidic or otherwise really, really Orthodox, and those are numerically small groups of people in the U.S. The vast majority of Jews in the U.S. are quite liberal. I would imagine other Jews have not been terribly friendly to Dr. Laura due to her politics. As a conservative, I do not feel very welcome in the Episcopal Church, either, and have not for several years (I bet other Episcopalians on this thread know fullwell what I mean) so I know how she feels.
Like Dr. Laura, I am also reconsidering my denominational future.

Meeting Jesus is all about getting your needs met. I thought it was all about Gods glory, not my needs
Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mar 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come [and] follow me
Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.

Maybe it was the call of cheeseburgers, and lasagne with meat. She has often mentioned her longing for them :-)

I agree
Rituals do nothing but frustrate those who truly want a relationship with the Lord
I pray that she will come to the saving knowledge by the grace of the Lord, that Jesus IS the Messiah, that as a Jew she was waiting for.

I think she'll become Catholic also.
It's a giant Leap of Faith, but she's up to it.

I for one have long been a supporter of Dr. Laura despite occasionally disagreeing with her on certain issues. I have prayed for her to take that step from the old covenant to the new, and perhaps that is happening now. Most of the people I know who label her a hypocrite either don't have any idea what the word really means, or don't know enough about her to back up such a statement.
May she find the fulfillment of her needs in the arms of our risen Savior.
