Southerners Know How to React

Watch out who you call a nasty name - he might be a Southerner, and y'all will be in a heap o' trouble.

Southerners, it seems, are brimming over with cortisone and testosterone, and they tend to be quick on the trigger. That's according to eggheads at the University of Michigan, where shrinks wandered down corridors bumping into students and calling them names.

Students from the South reacted far more violently and aggressively than those from the North, and "in tests regularly suggested more belligerent solutions to problems," writes Britain's Spectator magazine.

At the root of it all is the nearly vanished concept of honor, which appears to be thriving south of the Mason-Dixon line.

The Michigan experiments demonstrated that Southerners "retain two vital aspects of the old honour system: a high degree of sensitivity to insults and a tendency to respond with violence and aggression," according to Spectator.

That sounds reasonable - except how does it explain Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards and Jimmy Carter?

I have learned one thing about women over the years:

As much as strident women complain, they really like masculinity and in their hearts have a desire to accomodate (note I did not say submit) such a man if they have the faith in him they need to relinquish the control they utilize to protect themselves psychologically and physically. It's a bit more complicated than the Southern Boy meets Southern girl thingie but it can indeed work. I have enjoyed the company of Yankee gals but Southern gals are less up front difficult. Southern women get their way in a more subtle yet effective fashion and we like it.

Yankee men nearly always enjoy Southern gals.

Miami is an interesting sprawling city with simmering racial tension....which occasionally explodes LA style.

I moved there from manhattan and spent 6 years there. It is not the South's most livable city but is arguably the prettiest water/beaches in the world to have so many folks living so close.

I'm partial but I think Nashville is the South's most livable city of over 1M.

Of course NYC has the most of everything....NYC tops everyone in art collections and theatre etc. Does that make Chicago second class? Hardly.

PS: The only real South anywhere near Miami anymore is Davie in Broward county.

You’ve sure got some screwy reasoning for what “first class” is and isn’t. You can have NY, LA, Chicago and SF, appaerntly the US only has as a few "first class" cities, how sad for us.

The streets are empty after 7 because we all have jobs and have to get up early.

The streets are packed after 7:00 p.m. in NYC, Chicago, and Boston because we work 12 to 15 hours a day or more and want something to do when we are done. They are also crowded because there are lots of fun and interesting things to do, which is why people from out-of town, including second class cities, visit in the first place.

A decent meal---Waffle House is open all night with sweet tea and grits. Try'em you might like it.

You forgot the "sarcasm" tag. But in case you're series, then thank you for making my point.

Finally if you don't like the south take stay the fuck out of our 2nd rate cities with low crime rates and polite people lest you become the next ass kicked victim.

I suspect that many of your second class southern cities have crime rates that far exceed the first class cities in the north. BTW, I like the south and southern people, although some of them are thin skinned and overly aggressive, probably due to an inferiority complex.

As for the inferiority complex those guys from MI should have added that to the list as saying that in person to someone from the south will most definitely get your ass kicked.

Is that the best you can do? Lagos (from what I've read because I've never been there and have no desire to go there), is obviously a fourth class city even by third world standards. The hotels suck, the food sucks, there are no plays, restaurants, or nightlife to speak of, the hospitals suck, the public transportation sucks, the museums suck, and the people still pee in the street.
